Job Summary:

As the Endoscopy Technician, you will work with the physician and RN during endoscopic procedures such as EGDs, colonoscopies, ERCP, making a direct impact on patient care at ProMedica.

You will ensure proper supply and instrument management by checking the daily schedule for patients of all ages.

You will maintain a sterile field and promptly address any breaks in sterile procedure during surgical procedures.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

+ Performs a variety of direct care functions under the guidance of the physician and RN to assist in the care of assigned patients.

+ May perform procedures in OR setting or at patient bedside including ICU, ED, or Radiology.

+ Assists with the collection of specimens and prepares specimens for cytology, microbiology, and pathology.

+ Ensures all endoscopic equipment is appropriately prepared daily for all procedures.

+ Completes prescribed cleaning/disinfection process in all endoscopic equipment in a timely manner to maintain ready equipment for all procedures. Utilizes proper PPE’s.

+ Utilizes endoscopic cleaning equipment per manufacturer’s guidelines to disinfect designated items. Maintains logs per policies.

+ Orders and maintains all supplies needed for the procedures and scope processing. Processes malfunctioning scopes and ships for repair

+ Consults with other staff members when in question or unfamiliar with equipment or procedure

+ Appropriately responds to the patient in an emergency or physically distressful situation

+ Assists with the transport of patients, if needed

+ Performs other job duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

+ **Education:** High School graduation or equivalent

+ **Skills:** Must be able to understand directions and communicate and respond to inquiries. Must be able to work with video equipment, hazardous supplies and equipment and operate patient care equipment.

+ **Years of Experience:** 1 year of Hospital experience, with patient care responsibilities

+ **Certification:** BLS

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

+ **Education:** College credits or degree

+ **Years of Experience:** Prior experience in a Surgical or GI setting

+ **Certification:** Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER)
