The Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research (CPCR) is seeking a casual **_Substance Abuse Counselor_** to be responsible for providing counseling and coordinating counseling activities according to study protocol for clients aged 18 and over. This is a casual position, averaging up to 12 hours a week as needed.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
+ Provide counseling to clients with a substance use disorder using multiple treatment modalities.
+ Create person-centered treatment plans, and maintain updated plans according to COMAR regulations.
+ Provide individual or group counseling to study participants. This may include structured psychotherapy such as brief motivational interviewing, as well as less structured or supportive psychotherapy.
+ Administer clinical assessments including structured clinical interviews (e.g., SCID-5), and other clinician-rated psychometric assessments (GRID-HAMD, C-SSRS, etc.).
+ Monitor, guide, evaluate, and rate various activities of study participants throughout study visits.
+ Assess clinical condition of study participants during sessions and communicate information to BPRU medical staff as needed to address emergent medical and psychological issues.
+ Interact with faculty and staff on research teams, in clinical programs, and with educational outreach initiatives to strategize about their communication needs.
+ Demonstrate effective risk assessment and crisis management.
+ Coordinate clients’ engagement in attending events consistent with treatment goals, including clinic appointments, NA/CA/AA meetings, employment appointments and recreational activities.
+ Coordinate access to community resources including job training, housing, recreation, and drug-free social contacts.
+ Comply with reporting requirements of state and local agencies.
+ Serve as backup for other research and administrative duties.
+ Will complete other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Clinical Supervisor.
+ Experience providing counseling services to adult population desirable.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to interact effectively with clients, management , in addition to individuals from diverse cultures.
+ Computer experience required.
+ Flexible hours required, including some evenings and weekends.
+ Excellent organizational skills to work effectively in an environment that requires balancing multiple assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor Degree required in Psychology, Social Work or another related field.
+ At the time of hire, qualified candidates must possess one or more of the following which are recognized by the MD Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists: Alcohol and Drug Trainee status, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LGADC, LCADC, LGPC, LCPC, or LCSW.
+ Must maintain credentials throughout employment.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
