Contract Opportunity: Flow Coordinator (Emergency Department Support) in Palo Alto, CA
Join a fast-paced Emergency Department environment where you’ll play a key role in supporting physicians, improving patient throughput, and elevating the overall patient experience. We’re seeking a **Flow Coordinator** for a contract role—ideal for someone with medical scribe, EMT/Paramedic, or healthcare program experience who thrives in high-energy clinical settings.

Pay rate range: $29.45 to $32.69 per hour, depending on experience
What You’ll Do
Direct Patient Encounter Support
+ Accompany physicians during patient history-taking and examinations when directed.
+ Record physician-directed HPI, PMH, exam details, and pertinent findings in the ED EMR.
+ Document procedures, lab results, and imaging findings.
+ Assist in gathering patient histories by reviewing notes from nurses, EMS, prior admissions, and external facilities.
Documentation & EMR Responsibilities
+ Enter encounter details into the EMR (EPIC) as dictated by the supervising physician.
+ Review documentation with the physician after each encounter; physician will finalize and sign the record.
+ Electronically sign beneath the physician’s signature once documentation is complete.
+ Maintain accuracy, professionalism, and timeliness in all charting duties.
Workflow & Communication Support
+ Notify physicians when results are available, critical values are reported, or when patients are ready for procedures or disposition.
+ Alert the physician to delays in testing or other bottlenecks.
+ Serve as a liaison between physicians, nurses, clinical associates, and HUCs—conveying messages that support workflow (non-care directives only).
+ Assist residents working with the supervising physician as needed.
Patient Ambassador Activities (Occasional)
+ Check on patient comfort, pain levels, and needs; notify the physician of any concerns.
+ Provide blankets, pillows, or nourishment with staff approval.
+ Help create a supportive, reassuring environment for patients and families.
Discharge Support
+ Assist with preparing discharge instructions and follow-up appointments in EPIC (as directed).
+ **Note:** Flow Coordinators do not enter medical orders or prepare prescriptions; physicians maintain full responsibility for patient care orders.
Education
+ High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
+ Minimum **3 years of overall experience** .
+ Preferred background:
+ Emergency Department medical scribe
+ EMT/Paramedic
+ Healthcare education program experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Strong medical terminology knowledge and understanding of clinical workflows.
+ Excellent communication, grammar, and documentation skills.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
+ Experience with EMRs—EPIC strongly preferred.
+ Ability to remain composed in fast-paced, high-stress situations.
+ Strong customer service focus with the ability to interact respectfully with patients, families, and clinical staff.
+ Cooperative team player with professional demeanor and problem-solving skills.

**Pay Details:** $29.45 to $32.69 per hour
