    Job Description

    The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, and updating patient information.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.

    + Decontaminate and update patient information.

    + Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection clearly and courteously.

    + Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

    + Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

    + Ensure accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against the script.

    + Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature.

    + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.

    + Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

    Essential Skills

    + Phlebotomy skills including blood draw, venipuncture, and specimen collection.

    + Recent phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting for 1 to 2+ years.

    + Experience with pediatric and geriatric venipuncture.

    + Excellent customer service skills.

    + Comfortable working independently.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience.

    + Certification in phlebotomy is preferred.

    + Experience in a clinic or hospital setting.

    + High school diploma or equivalent.

    Work Environment

    The position is based at an LC IOP Account in Walgreens, working from 7 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday. This is initially a contract role covering a leave of absence, with potential for recommendation if an opening occurs. The role requires drawing up to 40 to 50 patients a day. You will work with one team member until 1:30 PM EST, after which you will work independently.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.75/hr.
