Job Title: Microbiology Lab Technologist
Job Description
The Lab Technologist II will process and analyze patient samples, monitor quality control, ensure all instruments are maintained properly, and enter patient results into the department's system. This position may require conducting training for new employees and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
+ Read and follow Departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
+ Demonstrate proficiency in judging the acceptability of quality control results.
+ Communicate sample issues within and outside the department to support proper client communication.
+ Participate in internal and external proficiency testing.
+ Perform maintenance on departmental equipment.
+ Demonstrate proficiency in the performance, interpretation, and troubleshooting of assays.
+ Assist in the evaluation and development of new procedures.
+ Achieve training goals as established by Human Resources.
+ Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations.
+ Apply company value statements and Quality Principles to work.
+ Assist supervisors in daily operations within the department.
+ Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on all departmental instruments.
+ Participate in the training of new employees.
+ Work closely with all other lab personnel.
+ Assist in research projects as needed.
+ Assist in maintaining adequate supplies in the department.
+ Other job duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in laboratory settings, particularly CLIA-compliant labs.
+ Proficiency in clinical microbiology testing and assays.
+ Experience with blood, wound, and urine cultures, and microbial identification using various techniques such as bench biochemicals, Vitek, and MALDI-ToF.
+ Parasitology microscopic analysis and identification, including trichrome and concentrate preparations.
+ Molecular biology skills, including PCR, DNA extraction, and qPCR.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
+ Ability to train others and communicate effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological or Chemical Science, Medical Technology degree, or MLT Certification from an accredited institution.
+ Minimum of 6 years of clinical laboratory training or experience post MLT degree, or 4 years post MT or BS degree.
+ Potential for leadership roles within 18-24 months, with opportunities to advance to Assistant Technical Supervisor.
+ Successful completion of a colorblind test for microbiology positions.

This is a Permanent position based out of Asheville, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
