Job Title: Structural DesignerJob Description

We are seeking a skilled Structural Designer to prepare detailed fabrication, shop, and erection drawings for steel assemblies and access structures using Autodesk Advance Steel, AutoCAD, and Revit. The role involves developing connection details, bills of materials, and cut lists for fabrication shops while ensuring compliance with engineering standards, codes, and guidelines. The candidate will coordinate with fabrication shops, field supervisors, and engineering teams to ensure the constructability, accuracy, and timely delivery of projects.

Responsibilities

+ Prepare detailed fabrication, shop, and erection drawings for steel assemblies and access structures using Autodesk Advance Steel, AutoCAD, and Revit.

+ Develop connection details, bills of materials, and cut lists for fabrication shops.

+ Ensure all drawings comply with engineering standards, codes, and company guidelines.

+ Coordinate with fabrication shops, field supervisors, and engineering teams to ensure constructability, accuracy, and timely delivery of projects.

+ Revise and update drawings based on engineering feedback, field conditions, and client requirements.

+ Maintain organized drawing submittals and revision control through CAD/PDM systems.

+ Provide support during fabrication and erection, resolving drawing or dimensional issues in the shop or on-site.

+ Assist application engineers by preparing erection drawings, scaffold/hoist layouts, fabrication details, and assembly instructions.

+ Gain expertise in product lines to accurately draft and document access solutions.

+ Support engineering staff with preparation of calculation packages (STAAD, RISA, Tedds, Enercalc, Excel, etc.) when required.

+ Comply with all safety protocols within the work environment.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in Autodesk Advance Steel, AutoCAD, and Revit.

+ Experience as a steel detailer, engineering drafter, or designer, preferably in a steel fabrication shop environment.

+ Familiarity with fabrication processes, welding, bolted connections, and shop practices.

+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus.

+ Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage drawing sets, revisions, and multiple projects simultaneously.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering Technology or equivalent drafting/design experience.

+ Basic knowledge of engineering software such as STAAD, RISA, TEDDS, and ENERCALC is a plus.

+ Creative problem solving in a collaborative team environment.

+ Motivated to learn new and challenging tasks and work in the construction industry.

Work Environment

The office location is in Carlstadt, NJ with a hybrid schedule starting at 4 days in the office and 1 day remote. Once the candidate is comfortable and productive, the schedule will change to 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. The work is mainly performed in the office with rare site visits. The environment is dynamic, with fluctuating workflows, especially in New York City where most projects are currently based.

This is a Permanent position based out of East Rutherford, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
