    Job Description

    The Lab Technician performs sensory, physical, and chemical tests on finished products to ensure they meet established specifications. The role involves evaluating Bill of Material (BOM) for completeness, documenting test data, and maintaining laboratory records in the LIMS system. The technician is responsible for reporting nonconformance and participating in both internal and external proficiency programs to verify accuracy. This position also includes inspecting manufacturing equipment, storage equipment, and ensuring proper sanitation cleaning.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform sensory, physical, and chemical tests on finished products.

    + Evaluate Bill of Material (BOM) for completeness and proper documentation.

    + Record test data and maintain laboratory work list in the LIMS system.

    + Report nonconformance with immediate corrective actions in the LIMS system.

    + Conduct inspections for manufacturing and storage equipment and sanitation cleaning.

    + Participate in check sample programs with outside institutions and internal proficiency programs.

    + Follow proper GMPs and GLPs, and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary.

    + Assist with raw material testing, COA review, and COA filing.

    + Inspect finished product packaging to ensure labels and configurations are correct.

    + Approve and apply final wrap with automated equipment.

    + Perform wet chemistry product testing, equipment inspections, and audits.

    + Rotate between laboratory testing and floor inspections, spending 70% of the time in the lab and 30% on the floor.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor’s degree in Food Science/Chemistry or a related field.

    + 6-12 months of experience in quality assurance/control or laboratory settings.

    + Experience in wet chemistry.

    + No food allergies due to required taste testing.

    + Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Experience from school in a lab setting is acceptable.

    + Associates degree with 2 years of experience in a food processing company with exposure to quality assurance/control/testing.

    + Ability to write simple correspondence and communicate with individuals and small groups.

    Work Environment

    The work schedule is 1st shift from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with potential Saturday overtime. Initial training will be on 1st shift for approximately two months. The role involves exposure to chemicals and solvents during product testing, and requires occasional lifting of materials up to 50 lbs. Tasks are varied, minimizing visual or mental fatigue. The employee must frequently talk, hear, taste, or smell, and occasionally perform physical activities such as walking, handling objects, or crouching. The noise level is usually moderate, and there is occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles. Holiday pay is provided, with an opportunity for growth, including a shift differential increase upon permanent employment. After one year, there is potential to move into R&D or to a 1st shift position.

    This is a Contract position based out of ALSIP, IL.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
