    Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

    Job Description

    We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer who will be responsible for designing and specifying components for products, ensuring their functionality, safety, and efficiency. The role involves developing and refining product designs, processes, and systems using broad engineering concepts, research techniques, and industry best practices. You will support the transition of designs into production by collaborating with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth implementation and delivery.

    Responsibilities

    + Develop and refine product designs, processes, and systems using broad engineering concepts, research techniques, and industry best practices.

    + Support the transition of designs into production, collaborating with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth implementation and delivery.

    + Evaluate product designs for compliance with regulatory, contractual, and performance standards, focusing on materials, stability, and durability.

    + Gather and analyze functional requirements to refine concepts, plan project scope, and maintain schedules aligning with production timelines.

    + Prepare layouts, specifications, prototype drawings, and bills of materials to contribute to accurate documentation and timely project execution.

    + Collaborate with drafting teams, providing guidance and ensuring design intent is captured in technical drawings.

    + Partner with internal teams (sales, engineering, manufacturing, plant managers) and maintain external relationships with vendors and customers to address non-standard components and emerging technologies.

    + Recommend design improvements and material selections to enhance product performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

    + 2+ years of engineering experience in design, procedures, or administration; experience in the railcar industry is preferred.

    + Proficiency in CAD software and strong mechanical design skills.

    + Strong communication skills to convey technical information clearly in both written and verbal formats.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) for documentation, reporting, and presentations.

    + Ability to manage multiple projects of varying scope and complexity in a fast-paced environment.

    + Collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn from engineers and contribute to team success.

    Work Environment

    The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The role involves working closely with various internal teams and external partners to ensure the successful implementation of designs into production. The use of CAD software and Microsoft Office Suite is essential for carrying out daily tasks and responsibilities.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract position based out of Dallas, TX.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
