    JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): This position assists in providing 24-hour mental health emergency and crisis intervention services in the field to Lewis and Clark County community.

    Essential Position Functions:

    + Report to scene where dispatched by hospital-provided vehicle

    + Assists in assessment of mental status, risk, and clinical needs of persons in distress

    + Assists in providing supportive guidance

    + Assists in the determination of safety and status of person in distress and further disposition if needed

    + Assist in arranging transportation for individuals needing to go to ER, if other options are available outside of law enforcement

    + Assists to make a safety plan for individuals involved before leaving the scene

    + Assists in follow up on the status of persons in distress

    + Assists in seeking out and referring to community resources

    + Assists in evaluation of clinical need for hospitalization

    + Assists in evaluation of appropriateness for involuntary treatment according to legal criteria

    + Provide guidance for consultation to families, friends and other providers of care to persons in acute distress

    + Complete clinical records and reports according to established policy and procedure

    + Communicate effectively and professionally with members of community including but not limited to law enforcement and first responders

    + Cooperate with law enforcement members in a professional and courteous manner

    + Maintains a valid Montana driver’s license with clear driving record

    + Crisis response professional will work under the supervision and guidance of a LCPC or LCSW who has his or her Mental Health Professional certification until Master’s Degree, LCPC or LCSW license, and Mental Health Professional certification are obtained.

     

    KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3 years of experience working in a clinical setting where evaluation and referral skill are utilized, at least one year of which was spent assessing and treating severe and persistent mentally ill adults and at least six months of which was inpatient work. Basic computer knowledge required. Additional technology used in this position are: tablets, telephone and laptops.

     

    EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree required; Currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree program with an accredited program in social work or human services field, clinical psychology, or psychological counseling with demonstrated coursework and practicum in assessment and treatment of seriously mentally ill adults and children required and ability to graduate with Master’s Degree within 2 years of date of hire.

     

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: BLS required, Bachelor’s Degree required; Current enrollment in Master’s Degree program required and ability to graduate with Master’s Degree within 2 years of date of hire; Licensed Addiction Counselor license preferred; Valid Montana driver’s license required with clear driving record.

     

    Aptitudes : Ability to achieve cognitive, organization and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations and/or customers. Possesses interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and customer relations. Open to feedback and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments. Ability to assist in providing psychiatric assessment and crisis stabilization services to a variety of individuals in a variety of settings. Ability to assist in evaluation according to clinical and legal criteria. Ability to assess availability and make appropriate referral to community resources. Ability to interact in a professional manner with a number of professional and consumer groups, often in stressful circumstances. Ability to prioritize and to respond appropriately to simultaneous demands
