    Position Title: BYG-1 SME Technical Writer

    Position Summary:

    MIKEL is seeking a former or current US Navy Fire Control Technician (FT) (E-5 and above) to provide subject matter expertise (SME) for Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) product development. The SME will serve as the system expert for the source development of BYG-1 modernization and in-service Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) and Revision Readiness Manual (RRM) content.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Write, edit, and manage technical documentation

    + Coordinate with engineering, systems integration, and project management teams to gather technical data

    + Review and assess engineering/technical data and drawings to gather pertinent information for technical documentation development and updates

    + Resolve discrepancies and ensure technical manual content completeness

    + Review, validate, and provide detailed feedback on technical manual content, structure, and accuracy

    + Create Technical Manual Deficiency Evaluation Reports (TMDERs) based on review findings

    + Incorporate TMDERs into technical manuals

    + Monitor and support key delivery milestones

    Qualifications:

    + Former or current US Navy Fire Control Technician, E-5 or above

    + Understanding of US Navy Submarine operations

    + User experience with Submarine IETMs

    + Extensive experience with multiple Submarine BYG-1 combat control systems operations and maintenance

    + Clear understanding of technical manual structure and in-depth knowledge of S1000D technical manual standards and processes

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills

    + Ability to work in collaborative technical teams

    + Familiar with US Navy Submarine TI/APB process

    + Attended BYG-1 factory training at Naval Undersea Warface Center (NUWC)

    + Bachelor's degree in Engineering, English, Graphic Design, or related field plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience

    + Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance (active Secret clearance preferred)

    Preferred Experience & Skills:

    + IETM development using XML content management data base applications

    + Expertise with desktop publishing software such as PTC Arbortext and Adobe Frame Maker

    + Expertise with graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

    + Proficiency with Agile practices

    + Proficiency with JIRA

    Work Environment & Additional Information:

    + Position is fully onsite at NUWC, Newport, RI

    + Position involves occasional domestic travel opportunities up to once per quarter to support PI Planning events

    + Candidate must be detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple documentation deliverables in a dynamic technical environment
