Job Duties and Other Information
Position-Spec
Hours of Operation: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday
Appointment Type: Probationary Appointment-This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.
Compensation: Rate of Pay is dependent upon applicants' qualifications.
This position is part of a CPG, a s part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Dental Assistant 1 or 2) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Please refer to the ‘Job Specifications’ tab located at the top of the LA Careers ‘Current Job Opportunities’ page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level. There is also an additional $1 Longevity Pay for every hour worked.

Job Duties
As a Dental Assistant 1 or 2 you will Assist in the care of handling of patients during dental treatment which involves setting up, missing, and passing of surgical instruments and materials, taking radiographs, patient education and giving post-operative instructions, cleaning and disinfecting treatment areas after procedures.
Duties and responsibilities included but not limited to:
+ Assist dentists and dental students with chair side treatment of patients.
+ Maintain and stock cabinet
+ Instruct and evaluate students in proper four-handed dentistry techniques
+ Chart patients according to LSUSD systems (Axium Computer knowledge)
+ Give fluoride treatments as directed by dentist or student
+ Give follow-up home instructions as directed by dentist or student
+ Expose digital radiographs and expose and develop traditional radiographs and digital photographs (intra-oral and extraoral as directed by the dentist or student.
+ Make study models from alginate impressions as directed by the dentist or student.
+ Take alginate impressions as directed by the dentist or student.
+ Take and record pulse, blood pressure and temperature.
+ Place and remove temporary separating devices as directed by the dentist or student.
+ Remove sutures and ligature ties as directed by the dentist or student.
