About this Job
The Louisiana Special School District (LSSD) is an education service agency that provides services to the Louisiana Special Schools (Louisiana School for the Deaf, Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired, and Special School Programs). The schools provide educational opportunities to students with low-incidence disabilities and a variety of unique needs.
The School District is seeking a highly qualifiedAttorney–General Counsel 1to serve as the chief legal advisor to the Board of Education, Superintendent, and district leadership. This role provides comprehensive legal guidance on matters including education law, labor and employment, student rights, special education, governance, policy development, contracts, litigation oversight, and regulatory compliance.
The Attorney–General Counsel plays a critical role in supporting the district’s mission by ensuring legal compliance, managing risk, and promoting ethical and effective decision-making. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of K–12 education law, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly to educators, administrators, and community stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law plus six years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties will include; but is not limited to the following:
+ Provides general legal guidance to the Special School District.
+ Works closely with the Superintendent and other SSD leaders to ensure compliance with state and federal education, employment laws and administrative regulations.
+ Assists with legal transactions, prepares contracts and other legal documents.
+ Suggests revisions to policies and procedures for the Louisiana Special School District Board to ensure the District is compliant with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
+ Provides training to District leadership on policies, legal requirements, and other relevant topics.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional. The chosen applicant will be required to take a probationary appointment.
Work Schedule: Typically, work hours are 8:00 am-4:30 pm Monday - Friday.
