    This position serves as the direct supervisor for professional and/or paraprofessional social services staff that provide direct and indirect services to male and female offenders currently on Probation and Parole supervision within 9 district offices that are a potential high-risk for overdose. The incumbent will work to reduce overdoses through providing education and through collaboration with treatment centers and harm reduction organizations in the area.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Six years of social services experience; OR

    Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of social services experience; OR

    A bachelor's degree plus three years of social services experience; OR

     

    An advanced degree in a social sciences field plus two years of social services experience.

    EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

    Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

    Positions that provide addictive disorder counseling or prevention services will require certification or eligibility for certification issued by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority (ADRA), or its successor.

    Job Duties and Other Information

     

    + Provides direct-line supervision of treatment staff through supervisory conferences, staff meetings, on-the-job training, case reviews, and review of completed work assignments.

    + Guides employees in the assessments of needed services and placement of their clients, develops psychosocial assessments of case goals, objectives, and case plans for clients and their families, implements case plans.

    + Determine work assignments, coordinates work flow, monitors subordinates' activity and productivity.

    + Participates in the decision making process of the treatment team including formulating therapeutic activities and recommending a treatment plan.

    + Assists in the procurement of needs such as institutional placements, transportation, financial assistance, medical equipment, shelter, food, clothing, etc.

    + Assists in determining eligibility for services provided.

    + Makes recommendations to the criminal justice system or to employers concerning a client's progress, including occasional court appearances.

    + Reviews requests for client services and approves/disapproves request according to agency guidelines.

    + Reviews, evaluates, and counsels subordinates regarding work performance.

    + Responsible for orientation and continuing staff development functions for unit staff.

    + Positions that provide addictive disorder prevention services require certification or eligibility for certification as a Prevention Specialist in Training (PSIT), or a current practice credential as a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP), Registered Prevention Professional (RPP), Licensed Prevention Professional (LPP) issued by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority (ADRA), or its successor, pursuant to the Addictive Disorders Practice Act, LA RS. 37.3386-3390.6

    + Supervise the Social Service Counselor 4 A

    Position-Specific Details:

    Appointment Type: JOB APPOINTMENT

     

    + A job appointment is a temporary job lasting up to four years; however, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

    + This position may also be filled as a probational appointment if a non-temporary position becomes available in the recruitment process.

    + If filled by probation, a permanent classified LA State employee, if selected, may be required to accept a probational appointment.

     

    Note regarding the advertised pay range: The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and NOTthe amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.

    Other Important Information:

    + Any degree, certificate, special license, or DD-214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire.

    + Any qualifying experience that is based on college credit/college hours should have an accompanying transcript for verification.

    + This is a 24 hour facility.
