About the role
As a Drools Rule Engine Architect, you will lead the end-to-end development of business rules using Drools, ensuring optimal performance and seamless integration with enterprise systems. You will collaborate closely with business analysts to translate complex business needs into technical rules, while designing scalable solutions and integration patterns. This role is key to driving efficiency, accuracy, and innovation in decision services.
In this role, you will:
+ Lead the design, development, configuration, and deployment of decision services in Drools.
+ Implement and optimize business rules, ensuring high performance and scalability.
+ Design overall rule engine solutions and integration patterns.
+ Collaborate with business analysts to translate complex business requirements into technical rules.
+ Create high-level and detailed design documentation.
+ Optimize rule execution performance (e.g., rete algorithm tuning, memory footprint, caching strategies, rule set size management).
+ Work in Agile Scrum environments, contributing to iterative development and continuous improvement.

What you must have to be considered
+ Strong expertise in Drools and business rules management systems (BRMS).
+ Proven experience in rule implementation, optimization, and performance tuning.
+ Solid background in solution design, integration patterns, and technical documentation.
+ Hands-on experience in configuration and deployment of decision services.
+ Experience working in Agile Scrum environments.

+ Deep knowledge of rule engine optimization techniques (rete algorithm, caching, memory footprint management).
+ Ability to collaborate effectively with business analysts and stakeholders.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Salary and Other Compensation:
• The annual salary for this position is between $112,500 to $132,000 depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
• This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
