    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    This is a pharmacy specialist role serving as a subject matter expert in one of these specialties: pediatrics, internal medicine or hematology and oncology. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining medication standards, including enterprise order sets and individual medication builds, as part of a broader initiative to optimize and standardize medication management across the organization. The clinical pharmacy specialist will apply advanced clinical knowledge, operational expertise, and professional judgment to guide medication selection and administration methods for inclusion in order sets and facility formularies. This role partners with clinical service line leaders, pharmaceutical supply chain leaders, and informatics teams to ensure alignment across all medication-related systems, including the electronic health record (EHR), IV infusion pump libraries, automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs), compounding verification software, and other medication management technologies.

    What you will do in this role:

    + Select appropriate medications for inclusion in clinical order sets, ensuring choices are safe, evidence-based, and cost-effective.

    + Analyze clinical and financial data to determine safe and cost-effective administration methods for medications included in order sets.

    + Apply expertise in special populations and medications to conduct cost-benefit analyses and guide stakeholders on product selection, routes, and administration methods for formulary development and EHR standardization.

    + Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacy teams, and IT stakeholders to develop and maintain clinically sound and operationally functional medication order sets and ensure alignment across systems (EHR, ADCs, IV pumps.

    + Retrieve and evaluate clinical literature and guidelines to develop formulary recommendations; communicate clear summaries to Enterprise service line leaders.

    + Develop standardized tools and documentation to support medication alignment and implementation.

    + Utilize disease- and specialty-specific knowledge (e.g., age-specific considerations) in all responsibilities.

    + Support Enterprise quality and patient safety initiatives through medication standardization.

    + Plan and prioritize work activities effectively, managing time and resources to meet aggressive timelines in a fast-paced environment.

    + Contribute to developing goals and objectives for the standardization team.

    + Select appropriate medications for inclusion in clinical order sets, ensuring choices are safe, evidence-based, and cost-effective.

    + Analyze clinical and financial data to determine safe and cost-effective administration methods for medications included in order sets.

    + Apply expertise in special populations and medications to conduct cost-benefit analyses and guide stakeholders on product selection, routes, and administration methods for formulary development and EHR standardization.

    What qualifications you will need:

    + B.S. or Pharm D degree in Pharmacy - Required

    + Graduate of an accredited PGY-1 residency program - Preferred

    + Graduate of an accredited PGY-2 residency program - Preferred

    + Three or more years of experience in specialized area(s) of practice - Required

    + Maintains current pharmacist licensure. - Required

    + Board certification in specialties for the position as determined by position needs. Potential certifications may include CPPS, BCPPS, BCPS, BCOP, BCSPS among others - Required.
