SSAI seeks a Support Scientist III to support an Earth Science contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). The candidate will provide advanced software engineering and technical support for the development, testing, maintenance, and operational delivery of decision support system capabilities that leverage satellite and other Earth observation data. Work includes supporting the operational delivery of Earth observation–based products and contributing to the development and maintenance of an Earth observation repository to improve hydrologic decision support, along with associated project/database management, outreach, and communication activities.
Required Qualifications
+ Degree in computer science, software engineering, Earth system science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Demonstrated experience in software development using scientific programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, Fortran, shell scripting).
+ Experience with Git/GitLab-based configuration management, version control, and software delivery processes.
+ Experience supporting software verification, validation, regression testing, and documentation using defined standards and repeatable procedures.
+ Ability to manage, curate, and work with large Earth science datasets.
Desired / Preferred Skills
+ Experience supporting Earth observation data systems and/or operational data product delivery for decision support applications.
+ Experience contributing to data repositories and collaborating with distributed project teams on user needs, outreach, and communications.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
