    Summary:

    Vighter is recruiting Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technicians (MRI Techs) to provide patient care support at the San Francisco VAMC and Eureka Community-based facility. The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing magnetic resonance imaging procedures with a high degree of accuracy, patient care, and safety. This role ensures optimal image quality while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational protocols. The MRI Technologist serves as a critical member of the diagnostic imaging team, collaborating with radiologists, physicians, and clinical staff to support high-quality patient outcomes.

    Principle Accountabilities:

    + Perform MRI examinations according to physician orders and established protocols.

    + Ensure proper patient positioning and preparation to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.

    + Operate MRI equipment and associated imaging technology proficiently.

    + Monitor patient condition before, during, and after procedures; respond appropriately to adverse reactions or emergencies.

    + Administer contrast media and intravenous medications in accordance with scope of practice and facility policy.

    + Must adhere to 2026 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) standards /guidelines

    + Enforce MRI safety protocols, including screening patients and staff for contraindications.

    + Maintain a safe MRI environment consistent with ACR and facility guidelines.

    + Report equipment malfunctions, safety incidents, or quality concerns promptly.

    + Review images for diagnostic quality and completeness prior to submission.

    + Accurately document procedures, patient history, and technical data in the medical record.

    + Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives.

    + Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of imaging suites and equipment.

    + Assist with inventory control and ordering of supplies as needed.

    Qualifications:

    + ARRT certification in Radiography and MRI (or registry eligible). State licensure as required. BLS/CPR certification required.

    + Must be familiar with GE devices. Knowledge of Phillips Intellispace PACS is preferable.

    + Excellent problem-solving skills with a willingness to adapt and innovate as needed.

    + Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

    Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

    + The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this key position supporting 24/7/365 operations which may require work to be conducted in the day, at night, on weekends, and during holidays.

    + Shift / Tour of Duty (TOD): Rotating shifts as needed or required, including weekends, on-call and recognized holidays. Hours of shifts are typically:

     

    Days: 8:00AM to 4:30PM

     

    Split: 10:30AM to 7:00PM

     

    Evenings: 3:30PM to 12:00AM (Midnight)

     

    Nights: 12:00AM (Midnight) to 8:00AM

    Work Environment:

    + Location: VAMC, San Francisco and Eureka, CA

    Travel:

    + As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commute is non-compensatory. All official travel is government-funded.

    Physical Requirements :

    + Must be able to sit for more than 8 hours per day, must be willing to work overtime if necessary.

    + Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.

    + Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.

    + Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.

    + Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.

    + Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.

    + Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment

    + Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
