    GENERAL DUTIES

    - Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.

     

    - There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as

     

    needed.

     

    - Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.

     

    - Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records,

     

    operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards,

     

    act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.

     

    - Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.

     

    - Acts as cashier.

     

    - Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.

     

    - Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.

     

    - Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment.

     

    - Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.

     

    - May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.

    CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

    The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) is the 25th and newest unit of the City University of New York. The School is dedicated to public service and social justice. It offers undergraduate and graduate certificate and degree programs in labor relations, public policy, public administration, health care administration, community studies, community leaders, labor studies, and urban studies. These programs are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as traditional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and the community. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences and expert practitioners in government, labor, and public service.

     

    CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies is seeking a College Assistant to work in the Office of Academic Affairs. Under supervision, the incumbent will perform miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the departmental operations. Employees in the College Assistant title work up to 20 hours per week, and 1,040 per fiscal year.

    Duties can include but are not limited to:

    • Assist with recruitment and outreach, including info sessions, orientations, and communications with partner schools, families, and prospective students.

    • Provide logistical and administrative support for tutoring, workshops, advising sessions, and milestone events.

    • Coordinate and support co-curricular activities such as service projects, career panels, research events, and college visits (virtual and in-person).

    •Support event logistics, including RSVPs, materials, platforms, and day-of support..

    • Maintain accurate student records (eligibility, participation, outcomes) and support survey distribution for program evaluation.

    • Contribute to report preparation for internal use and NYSED deliverables.

    • Provide general program support, including organizing files, communications, supplies, and participating in staff planning meetings

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    - Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

    • Functional experience utilizing Excel and other standard Microsoft Office applications.

    • Strong organizational and follow-through skills.

    • Customer focused with ability to interact and work cooperatively and collaboratively on a team to assist diverse internal and external constituencies

    COMPENSATION

    This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours per week. Evening hours may be needed to carry

     

    out normal business operations.

     

    **Hourly rate: $19.12 to $29.32** ; commensurate with education and work experience

Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
