POSITION DETAILS
Lehman College, located in the Bronx, New York, is a 13,000 student senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx. The college serves a predominantly undergraduate student population, preparing them for employment or further study.
The School of Natural and Social Sciences (NSS) is one of the six schools at Lehman College. NSS includes 10 academic departments: Anthropology; Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Computer Science; Earth, Environmental, & Geospatial Science; Mathematics; Physics & Astronomy; Political Science; Psychology; and Sociology.
We seek an Associate Dean, beginning Fall 2026, who will provide administrative support for the day-to-day functions of the school as well as strategic leadership. Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean will serve as a key member of the NSS leadership team, which includes the Dean’s Office staff and the NSS Department Chairs. The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with the Dean across all major functions of the Dean’s Office to enact the mission of the school at the University, college, and community levels. They will also serve on College-wide committees as a representative of NSS or the NSS Dean’s Office.
The Associate Dean will lead or implement existing programs and policies, and develop novel initiatives, as needed. Domains include, for example:
• Academics: curriculum development (i.e., course scheduling, review of courses, curriculum maps); academic program review; academic program development and support (e.g., supporting and growing graduate programs)
• Student Success: monitor student retention, achievement, and progression
• Faculty Development: develop activities that foster faculty and staff success, either within NSS or across other schools; assist the Dean as needed with faculty personnel cases, processes, or issues
• Communications & Events: work with the Departments, Information Technology, Media Relations to maintain the NSS web presence (website, LinkedIn, social media), initiate and implement communications campaigns
• Research: identify school-level funding opportunities, design and implement faculty research support programs; manage or support undergraduate research training programs or opportunities
• Contribute to Strategic Planning and Accreditation for NSS departments, NSS as a unit, or the College
• Mediate between Department Chairs, Students, Faculty, and Administrative Units in support of NSS, College, and CUNY initiatives; in support of College and CUNY reporting (multiple positions, VOE, grades, etc.); in support of College and CUNY events; and in terms of addressing the full range of student, faculty, and departmental issues and concerns.
• Represent the priorities of NSS in coordination with other offices and programs: Enrollment Management (Academic Standards and Evaluations, Admissions, Registrar), Student Affairs (Campus Life, Financial Aid, Athletics), Administration (Finance and Budget, Buildings and Grounds, Human Resources) and Institutional Advancement (Alumni Relations, Lehman Foundation).
Appointment to this position will be accompanied by an academic appointment at the rank of Associate or full Professor. Tenure may be granted upon appointment to the faculty title, depending on qualifications and experience
Occasional evening or weekend work will be expected for school- or college-based events.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Candidates for NSS Associate Dean must (a) hold a PhD or equivalent degree in a discipline represented within the school and (b) hold the rank of Associate Professor or higher.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with education and experience, $145,000 -$153,000.
