THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The Environmental Protection Specialist possesses a high level of expertise in municipal, residual, and hazardous waste regulations, offering essential support to the Operations Section to ensure adherence to Commonwealth laws governing solid waste management. This role includes acting as the project officer for corrective action, remediation, and closure activities funded by Solid Waste Abatement Funds within the region. You will also serve as the primary technical representative for the department throughout all project phases, conducting assessments and site inspections to evaluate the project's scope and ensure the effective implementation of selected actions. Additionally, You will prepare detailed reports on findings and review corrective action plans to ensure compliance with environmental statutes and departmental policies, while also providing technical assistance to legal teams for cost recovery and other legal matters related to these projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ Travel is required for this position
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
+ Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ One year of experience as a journey-level specialist in a waste management program;or
+ Two years of experience in environmental protection and a bachelor's degree with major course work in biology, chemistry, or in a field closely related to environmental protection. A master's degree with major course work in any of the fields closely related to environmental protection may be substituted for one year of the required experience;or
+ Any equivalent combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledges and abilities.
Special Requirement:
+ This position requires possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
