    THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Bridge and Structural Drafter in Lycoming County. This position involves engaging in technical work that focuses on the creation and preparation of a diverse range of bridge and structural plans, maps, and related drawings. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of engineering principles and drafting techniques, enabling them to produce accurate and detailed designs that meet project specifications. If you are interested in contributing to vital infrastructure projects and have the necessary skills, we encourage you to apply now and become a part of our dedicated team!

    DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will employ Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) to create detailed technical drawings for bridges and other structural elements. Your responsibilities will include drafting and detailing tasks that contribute to the development of moderately complex final plans based on preliminary sketches, existing highway and bridge plans, as well as field survey data. The structures you will work on may include reinforced concrete box culverts, simple span bridges, metal plate culverts, multi-span bridges, and various bridge rehabilitation projects ranging from simple to moderately complex. You will undertake a diverse array of drafting and minor design tasks under the professional supervision of a bridge and structural designer, civil engineer, or draftsman. Your work will involve utilizing CADD tools or traditional drafting methods, which will require you to prepare and verify mathematical calculations, as well as establish horizontal and vertical alignments and drainage parameters through mathematical formulas. You will apply your knowledge of algebra, plane geometry, and trigonometry to perform calculations necessary for computing plan quantities and executing structural drafting with minimal oversight. Additionally, you will participate in field inspections of bridges related to rehabilitation and replacement projects, developing inspection notes and sketches with limited guidance from professional staff. You will also be responsible for reviewing and verifying the accuracy and detailing of bridge and structure plans completed by others, providing support and mentorship to junior staff members, and striving to meet or exceed the expected performance outcomes for the current evaluation cycle.
