**Description of Duties** :
The Postdoctoral Associate will work on an NIH-funded project focusing on the roles of alkaline ceramidase 2 (ACER2) in chemotherapy-induced cancer metastasis and chemoresistance in Dr Cungui Mao’s laboratory in the department of Medicine and Cancer Center at Stony Brook University. ACER2 is a member of the alkaline ceramidase (ACER) family, originally identified in humans by the Mao lab. The lab previously demonstrated that ACER2 mediates various cellular responses by regulating bioactive sphingolipids, such as ceramides, sphingosine, and sphingosine-1-phosphate. Recent findings from the lab indicate that ACER2 plays important roles in mediating chemotherapy-induced tumor metastasis and cancer chemoresistance. For more information about the groundbreaking research in the Mao lab (https://cancer.stonybrookmedicine.edu/CancerResearch/LipidLaboratory/Mao-staff) please visit the Lipid Cancer Laboratory (https://cancer.stonybrookmedicine.edu/CancerResearch/LipidLaboratory) .
• Develop small molecule inhibitors of ACER2 as potential cancer therapeutics using high throughput screening (HTS) and study the anti-cancer efficacy, toxicity, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of the ACER2 inhibitors.
• Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data.
• Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.
• Perform lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
• Attend scientific conferences and meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
