**Description of Duties** :
The Postdoctoral Associate will work on an NIH-funded project focusing on the role of alkaline ceramidase 2 (ACER2) in chemotoxicity in cancer patients in Dr. Cungui Mao’s (https://cancer.stonybrookmedicine.edu/tlc/investigators/mao) laboratory in the department of Medicine and Cancer Center at Stony Brook University. ACER2 is a member of the alkaline ceramidase (ACER) family, originally identified in humans by the Mao lab (https://cancer.stonybrookmedicine.edu/CancerResearch/LipidLaboratory/Mao-staff) . The lab previously demonstrated that ACER2 mediates various cellular responses by regulating bioactive sphingolipids, such as ceramides, sphingosine, and sphingosine-1-phosphate. Recent findings from the lab indicate that ACER2 plays an important role in mediating adverse events of chemotherapeutic agents, such as myelosuppression. For more information about the groundbreaking research please visit the Lipid Cancer Laboratory (https://cancer.stonybrookmedicine.edu/CancerResearch/LipidLaboratory) .
+ Investigate the molecular mechanism by which ACER2 regulates chemotoxicity using in vitro cell models and in vivo animal models.
+ Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
+ Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.
+ Perform lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
+ Attend scientific conferences and meetings.
+ Other duties as assigned.
