What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an experienced electrical engineer or systems engineer to lead and participate in the development of advanced RF systems used in current and future national security applications. The selected candidate will demonstrate the ability to work in a dynamic team environment, model strong leadership skills, and share resources as well as programmatic responsibilities across the group.

This position's primary focus will be the development of specialized RF communication systems. It is crucial to have an interest in mixed-signal (RF, analog, digital) electrical designs, interactions with a broad set of government sponsors and stakeholders, and contributing to the delivery of products throughout their entire lifecycle.

Our systems are based on advanced signaling techniques and ultra-low power RF receiver/transmitter designs. Successful candidates will lead and become part of a multi-disciplinary, success-oriented, high-performance project team delivering systems that strengthen our national security. Projects range from fast-paced, quick-reaction requests in response to real-world driven needs to longer-term, life-critical efforts with rigorous development requirements.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

    Salary Range:

    $138,600 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    Qualifications We Require:

+ Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level (or DOD equivalent) security clearance.

    Qualifications We Desire:

The ideal R&D S&E Electrical Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

+ Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).

+ Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers.

+ Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

+ Strong program execution skills with a passion for developing and delivering custom systems

+ Strong critical-thinking, synthesis, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve ambiguity.

+ Ability to collaborate effectively within a team, maintaining clear communication, consistent progress, and timely identification and escalation of risks or obstacles.

+ Project leadership experience, including budget, risk, requirements, and schedule management.

+ Experience developing products within rigid development processes (examples could include satellite systems, ND, aviation, medical, safety-of-life, etc.).

+ Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication, including the development and delivery of presentations, proposals, reports, and other documentation.

+ Demonstrated experience working with production agencies.

+ Demonstrated experience in the qualification of products, including testing and documentation.

+ Demonstrated experience in analog/digital electronics design and analysis.

+ Demonstrated experience in high-speed digital circuit signal and power integrity analysis and simulation.

+ Demonstrated experience with spectrum and coherence signal analysis.

+ Experience with wireless systems design.

+ Active security clearance (Secret or Top Secret).

+ Ability to obtain and maintain SCI access, which may require a polygraph.

    About Our Team:

The High Reliability Special Communications Department (5372) develops terrestrial, airborne, and space-based special communications systems for use in surveillance, reconnaissance, and high-value target and material controls. Our customers include a variety of government organizations conducting special operations missions. Staff members possess a diverse skill set, including microwave circuit design, antenna design, signal analysis, digital signal processing, embedded software, and digital FPGA designs. Applications include long and short-range communications and transponder systems, typically utilizing ultra-low power signaling techniques. Our design challenges include highly miniaturized electronics, low-power maximally efficient transceivers, signal extraction in very low signal-to-noise environments, and signal analysis of RF and communication systems.

    Posting Duration:

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

    Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

    EEO:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
