    Pikes Peak State College is located at the foot of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado. PPSC offers broad programs in transfer, occupational, and preparatory subjects emphasizing student and community needs. Colorado Springs is a great city to both work and live. This position is located at the Pikes Peak State Centennial Campus.

    Description of Job

    This position supervises the Mechanical/HVAC work unit and oversees the operation, maintenance, and repair of campus mechanical and utility systems, including boilers, chillers, emergency generators, plumbing, and building automation systems. The supervisor assigns and schedules work, establishes procedures, and ensures safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. This role provides direct leadership to assigned staff and supports minor construction, renovation, and campus service needs to maintain a safe, functional, and efficient learning environment.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Supervision and Administration

     

    + Supervise and direct the work of the Mechanical/HVAC work unit.

    + Assign tasks, prioritize work orders, and schedule completion of service requests.

    + Establish work procedures and ensure compliance with safety, maintenance, and operational standards.

    + Inspect completed work to ensure quality and compliance.

    + Evaluate staff performance in accordance with State Classified Personnel Rules.

    + Manage unit resources including equipment, space, time, leave, budget, and procurement.

    + Train and develop staff to perform mechanical, HVAC, and building automation tasks proficiently.

     

    Mechanical, HVAC, and Utility Operations

     

    + Oversee and participate in the fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of gas, steam, air, refrigeration, and plumbing systems.

    + Install, repair, calibrate, and adjust HVAC systems and campus building automation systems.

    + Install and maintain valves, pumps, pipes, compressors, condensers, motors, fans, gauges, switches, control panels, and temperature controls.

    + Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and sheet metal components.

    + Bend, cut, thread, join, and connect piping to components and power or water systems.

    + Test and adjust gauges and controls to ensure efficient system operation.

    + Assemble structural and functional components using screwing, bolting, riveting, welding, and brazing techniques.

     

    Project Support and Contractor Oversight

     

    + Provide and schedule mechanical and HVAC support for minor construction and renovation projects.

    + Assist with other initiatives related to the work unit’s scope.

    + Solicit vendor quotations and coordinate with procurement to initiate purchase orders.

    + Schedule contractor work and perform quality assurance inspections on completed work.

     

    Collaboration and Campus Support

     

    + Assist other facilities work units with service requests to maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable learning and working environment for students and staff across the college system.

    + Participate in seasonal snow and ice removal operations, including shift variations as required.

    Other Duties

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience Only:

    Four (4) years experience in HVAC and plumbing, two (2) of which must include supervisory experience, and possession of a Universal EPA Refrigerant Certification. Do not use "SEE RESUME" statements on application; your application must be completed in detail and clearly document your relevant work experience. (Part time experience will be pro-rated).

    Education and Experience:

    Successful completion of a formalized heating, ventilation and air conditioning apprenticeship program, or higher level, non-correspondence course work in the same fields from an accredited vocational school or university may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis. You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application in order to be considered. Please redact age-related information on your transcript.

     

    Conditions of Employment: Must possess and maintain a valid State of Colorado driver's license to independently drive company vehicles and equipment around the campus, pick up parts, etc. Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check to include a motor vehicle report (MVR) as a condition of hire. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Positions departments determine as critical to their operations.
