Job Description
Under general supervision, the Accountant Level II in the Trust Accounting Unit in General Ledger Department plays a critical supporting role in managing the day-to-day financial operations of the Trust (sponsored entity) and individual properties (Special Purpose Entities – SPEs). This role provides hands-on accounting, controlling, and reporting support while collaborating closely with Treasury, Revenue & Receivables, and Property Management teams. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and thrives in a complex accounting environment, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Recording:
- Prepare and reconcile journal entries for accruals, debt, other liabilities, and SPE activities.
- Maintain general ledger reconciliations and Shared Service journals, including billing coordination.
- Reconcile the Trust’s payroll and monthly “due to” balances; prepare wire transfers to settle balances.
- Support accounts receivable and accounts payable processes for timely and accurate recording of Trust and SPE transactions.
Controlling & Analysis:
- Collaborate with Treasury and Revenue & Receivables teams to support cash flow and revenue recognition.
- Assist in implementing and monitoring internal controls.
- Support audits and financial statement reviews, including Single Audit as required.
- Conduct variance analysis to support budgeting and forecasting, identifying and explaining the key drivers behind deviations from expected results.
- Assist in grants management, capital project accounting, and maintaining, setting up, and monitoring the mass allocation template in Oracle between property managers and SPEs.
Reporting & Compliance:
- Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial reports.
- Support the Assistant Director in preparing financial statements.
- Review tax filings to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Analyze organizational charts and structures for real estate transactions to support deal evaluation and decision-making.

Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing; or
2. A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or at least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.
