Overview
OVERVIEW
The **Network Specialist** is responsible for all facets of configuration, support, and troubleshooting of the internal network and the software-enabled devices deployed at client sites across the U.S. In addition, the Network Specialist will support the design, implementation, security, and maintenance of the organization’s network infrastructure across all environments. This role ensures the reliability, performance, and scalability of critical network systems, including routing, switching, wireless networks, firewalls, and remote access technologies.
The Network Specialist plays a vital role in supporting business continuity by proactively monitoring network health, resolving complex technical issues, optimizing network performance, and guiding improvements to network architecture, security posture, and operational processes.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Network Architecture, Engineering & Deployment
+ Design, configure, deploy, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless systems, and remote connectivity solutions.
+ Develop, document, and maintain network architectures encompassing LAN, WAN, WLAN, and perimeter networks.
+ Engineer and support advanced routing, switching, segmentation, VLANs, and traffic-management strategies.
+ Lead network upgrades, expansions, new site implementations, and modernization initiatives.
Network Operations, Monitoring & Troubleshooting
+ Continuously monitor network performance, capacity, and availability to ensure optimal operation.
+ Diagnose and resolve complex network issues across all layers, identifying root causes and implementing long-term solutions.
+ Maintain high levels of network availability through proactive maintenance, tuning, patching, and lifecycle management.
+ Respond to network incidents, outages, and performance degradations with urgency and accuracy.
Network Security & Compliance
+ Implement and maintain network security controls, including access policies, segmentation, encryption, and monitoring.
+ Manage secure remote access solutions and enforce best practices for identity, access, and authentication across the network.
+ Perform regular security assessments, including hardening, patching, and vulnerability remediation.
+ Collaborate with security and compliance teams on incident response and risk mitigation efforts.
Systems Integration & Cross-Functional Support
+ Ensure seamless integration and end-to-end connectivity across systems.
+ Manage critical network services such as IP addressing, name resolution, and traffic flow across distributed environments.
+ Support hybrid and cloud network connectivity, ensuring secure and efficient communication between environments.
Documentation, Standards & Continuous Improvement
+ Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including network diagrams, configuration standards, and operating procedures.
+ Establish and uphold standard practices for configuration management, backups, and change control.
+ Identify opportunities to enhance network reliability, security, performance, and scalability through modern approaches and process improvements.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
+ 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise-level network infrastructure.
+ Demonstrated experience managing complex routed and switched environments, network segmentation, wireless networks, and secure connectivity solutions.
Technical Skills
+ Strong understanding of:
+ Routing and switching concepts and protocols.
+ Network topology and architecture design.
+ VLANs, segmentation, and traffic-management.
+ Firewalls, access control, and secure remote connectivity.
+ Network monitoring, diagnostics, and performance analysis.
+ Familiarity with cloud and hybrid networking principles.
+ Experience with scripting or automation tools is a plus.
Professional Competencies
+ Strong analytical and diagnostic skills, especially with complex network issues.
+ Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
+ Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
+ High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Preferred Certifications
+ Certifications related to networking, security, or infrastructure engineering are desirable.
