This position will require a medical surveillance baseline exam.
Position:
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a Senior Waste Area Group Coordinator - Scientist 4 for the State Office in Boise (Waste Management & Remediation Division).
Salary Range: $37.00- $40.00
Responsibilities:
• Review a wide range of technical and regulatory documents required by the Federal Facility Agreement/Consent Order (FFA/CO) for cleanup of the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) under the federal Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA).
• Apply US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) CERCLA guidance for the oversight of the US Department of Energy's (DOE's) investigation, risk assessment, and remediation of hazardous substance and radionuclide releases or potential releases to the environment at the INL.
• Prepare and submit comments to DOE and EPA. Attend meetings and resolve comments with DOE and EPA leading to finalization and approval of plans, reports, and proposals.
• Create and register FFA/CO documents, correspondence, and email for storage in DEQ's electronic data management system.
• Perform field visits, site inspections, and observations of CERCLA cleanup activities at INL. Attend mandatory and selected training per employee development/training plan.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in the physical or biological sciences, Political Science, Business or Public Administration, Engineering, or related natural resources management field OR Education and/or experience equivalent to a typical four (4) year Bachelor's degree. For example: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty-four (24) semester hours in a subject required for the specific discipline, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or experience performing routine duties such as planning, research, regulatory development and/or implementation of components of environmental programs or media for at least two (2) years can substitute for one (1) year of college.
AND
At least six (6) years of professional experience providing management, technical assistance, resource allocation, and policy interpretation to staff, special interest groups and the public.
OR
Possession of a Master's degree in any of the above fields AND at least four (4) years of professional experience providing technical assistance, allocating resources, managing and/or developing programs; and interpreting policy to staff, special interest groups and the public.
Desired Specialty Minimum Qualification
DEQ 3018 - Hydrogeologist
A Bachelor’s Degree with a major in either geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, environmental /civil engineering or a closely related field
AND a minimum of two (2) years full time work experience in the areas of aquifer assessment, aquifer protection, ground water contaminant transport and/or design of ground water remediation projects, ground water monitoring networks or the study of aquifer properties
OR any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a typical four (4) year bachelor's degree. For example: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty four (24) semester hours in a subject required for the specific discipline, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or experience performing routine duties as specified above for at least two (2) years can substitute for one (1) year of college.
DEQ 3116 - DEQ-Remediation
Considerable knowledge of remediation typically gained through possession of a college degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geophysics, Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Soil Science, Chemical, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field; OR education and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree; AND two (2) years of work experience in investigating, monitoring and remediating past contamination, evaluating fate and transport of contaminants, applying short-term and long-term control and clean-up technologies; OR possession of an unrelated college degree; AND successful completion of two (2) years of environmental college level coursework supplemented with four (4) years full-time work experience as outlined above; OR At least eight (8) years of work experience in investigating, monitoring and remediating past contamination, evaluating fate and transport of contaminants, applying short-term and long-term control and clean-up technologies, and/or interpretation and application of federal and/or state environmental rules and regulations.
Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodations
• Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time.
• Ability to bend and reach for filing purposes.
• Some periods of heavy reading and typing are required.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds when working with file boxes.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to climb ladders, staircases, work on uneven terrain.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds over rough terrain.
• Ability to work in adverse or inclement weather.
• Ability to work in extreme hot or cold temperatures both outside and inside.
• Field sites may involve working near and with drilling rigs, backhoes, trucks and other large equipment in rough terrain.
• Occasional travel required.
• May work in the vicinity of loud noise.
• May be required to travel and stay overnight in remote areas
• May come into contact with hazardous waste/materials.
