Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is currently recruiting for a ShopSuperintendent to join our District 3 team in Boise, Idaho. This exciting position could be a perfect career opportunity for you to put your leadership skills and mechanical knowledge to work for the citizens of Idaho at the Idaho Transportation Department. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling a multifaceted equipment repair shop involved in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of heavy-duty construction type gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and related equipment; perform related work.
This position requires you to obtain a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 60 days of hire as well as pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
Example of Duties
Management
+ Manages a diversified repair shop dealing with minor and major repair of a large fleet of specialized vehicles
+ Develop specifications for district equipment, tools, and related maintenance and repair devices
+ Consults with manufacturers and factory representatives on equipment problems, designs, and warranty agreements
+ Tests equipment for design, operational and physical capabilities
+ Prepare reports of equipment utilization, repair costs, and equipment discrepancies
+ Oversee all operations including overhaul, welding, metal fabrication, body and fender repair, painting, field repair, and preventive maintenance
+ Manages a service station and ensures security and maintenance of the building complex and yard
+ Hire and trains staff, assign work, and evaluate performance
+ Handles complaints and conflicts and related personnel issues at operational level
+ Completes and maintains maintenance and repair records and reports
+ Requisitions and maintain inventory of tools, equipment, supplies, and parts
Operations
+ Receives and inspects vehicles and equipment
+ Diagnoses complex mechanical problems and repair needs
+ Prepares job orders for repairs, manufacture of parts, and preventive maintenance, and estimates related costs
+ Trains staff in various aspects of operations maintenance and repair in areas such as fuel system, ignition, computer control systems, braking systems, power plant repair, electrical systems, welding techniques, and any other system related to this type of work
+ Operates equipment to diagnose problems and validate repair completion
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of
+ The practices, materials, and tools used to repair and refinish damaged vehicular bodies and parts
+ Welding methods and equipment
+ Mechanical repair shop safety practices
+ Current technology in mechanical and component systems maintenance and repair
Experience
+ Supervising staff and activities of an equipment repair shop
+ Training others in the use and care of mechanical tools and shop equipment
+ Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and related malfunctions of gasoline and diesel engines and component systems and determining necessary repairs and maintenance needed
+ Estimating mechanical and vehicular body repair costs and time involved
+ Must have a valid driver’s license and obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 60 days of hire.
