The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) is seeking a Senior Utility Craftsman to join our team. The position is located at our Southwest Regional office in Nampa, Idaho.
The purpose of this position is to perform and direct advanced journey-level and master-level construction, building trades and mechanical work, contract management, and maintenance and improvement of access sites and the regional office and compound.

General Information:
+ The incumbent for this position is considered an advanced journey-level and master-level worker in aspects of inside and outside heavy construction and building trades type work. This includes new construction, and maintenance of existing facilities. Incumbents should have a proficient background in all aspects of construction and trades work. This position may require you to travel away from home for extended periods of time and to work in all weather conditions. This position, with or without reasonable accommodation, also involves physical activities associated with construction work such as lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 100 pounds, bending and stooping, and working at heights of up to 50 feet.
+ The work schedule is 40 hours per week (Typically four 10-hour days.)
+ Some overnight and day travel within the McCall subregion will be required
+ This position is expected to have or be willing to obtain Class A CDL with Combination Vehicle and Air Brake endorsements within the one year of employment. For positions requiring a CDL, incumbents must pass a pre-employment-controlled substance screening test. Once a CDL is obtained, the employee is required to participate in the Department's drug/alcohol testing program and comply with all of its provisions through their duration of employment with the agency.
+ This position is expected to have or be willing to obtain Idaho Pesticide Applicators Permit by passing the Applicator Core Competency (CO) and Right-of-Way Herbicide (RW) certificate within six months of employment and aquatic weed and pest control (AP) certificate in the first year. Once permits are obtained, the employee will need to maintain licenses and permits to maintain certifications.
Responsibilities:
+ Read plans and blueprints; use transit and level as well as run stakes for surveys.
+ Secure permits, obtain bids and purchase materials; inspect projects for conformance to specifications code compliance and American Disability Act standards.
+ Construct buildings, storage sheds, garages, bridges, in-stream structures, fences, and similar facilities and structures.
+ Maintain and repair plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems and pump stations, pipes, sinks, lavatories, septic tanks and electrical wiring, lights, ballasts, switches and receptacles.
+ Keep records and reports on the progress of projects, function as lead worker over project assignments.
+ Lay out, cut, weld and fabricate steel plate, angle, channel, pipe and beams.
+ Schedule work projects by visiting building and recreation sites to determine equipment and material needs.
+ Supervise and perform activities related to building construction and repair, ground development and maintenance, and equipment operation and maintenance, such as building, remodeling and repairing structures, equipment, and furniture, parking areas, vault toilets, rock walls, sidewalks, fences, boat launches, and docks.
+ Project management and coordination of site or facility development and improvement projects at department properties including c onsults with engineers, contractors, and vendors to address any design changes and set project schedules.
+ Provide input on hiring temporary staff and supervise them during work projects.
+ Conduct repairs, oversee contracted projects and provide preventive maintenance on fishing and boating sportsman access sites with roads, structures, ramps, buildings, campgrounds, dam infrastructure and docks
+ Performs and/or coordinates maintenance and repair of Southwest Regional Offices facilities and equipment
+ Collaborate with other states, counties, or local agencies, contractors, volunteer groups, and private property owners
+ Routinely interact with hunters, anglers, and other users of Department sites during daily activities
+ Assist and coordinate volunteer groups and/or Supervised Inmate Labor Detail (SILD)
+ Operate and maintain power tools, as well as small, medium and large equipment (Backhoe, skid steer, mini excavator, dump truck, truck and trailer non CDL)
+ Design, repair, and fabricate parts using welders and power tools
+ Provides direction to maintenance staff and assist with related trade duties
+ Build, set forms, and finishes concrete
+ Document site use, needed repairs, replacing and installing signage.
+ Preform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance of fleet equipment (trucks, trailers and implements).
+ Keeping detailed records and files using computer software
Minimum Qualifications: (All qualifications listed below are required. To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the minimum experience and/or education standards as outlined in each of the typical qualification guidelines. + Considerable knowledge of construction and building trades work. (This is typically gained by carpentry and concrete work experience demonstrated at journey level skill, (at least four years of experience in each) and two other construction trades (i.e. mechanics, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or related field), which could have included an equal amount of related education.)
+ Considerable knowledge of construction methods. (This is typically gained by at least four years’ paid work experience in residential or commercial construction as a worker or lead worker.)
+ Experience operating, transporting, and maintaining equipment associated with construction and building trades and ground maintenance. (This is typically met by experience operating and maintaining a variety of light and heavy equipment such as forklifts, loaders, backhoe and dump trucks and performing minor repairs and tune ups in addition to normal servicing.)
+ Experience placing and finishing concrete; performing rough and finish carpentry; performing maintenance plumbing and electrical work; reading/interpreting plans, specifications, and blueprints. (This is typically gained by four years of experience in residential or commercial construction in carpentry or concrete at the journey level and includes experience in plumbing, electrical, and blueprint reading.)
+ Experience using and maintaining building trades hand and power tools. (This is typically gained by experience using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools commonly associated with construction trades.)
+ Experience providing construction and trades direction and training to others; evaluating the construction and trades performance of others; identifying, procuring and organizing materials and equipment necessary for construction projects. (This is typically gained by at least one year of experience providing routine on the job training of others in maintenance projects; instructing others in methods and procedures; organizing projects to include proper personnel and equipment for a single construction maintenance activity; and checking to ensure that work is in compliance with standards.)
Minimum Qualification Specialty Area: (This qualification listed below is required for the current opening at IDFG.)
+ Experience laying out, cutting, fabricating, and welding various types of steel. (Typically gained by experience or training that would indicate competence in welding (self-study or specific training in welding at a vocational technical school is acceptable.))
