The Robert Larner MD College of Medicine at the University of Vermont is a leader in patient care, medical education and research. The Department of Medicine has initiated a search for a faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level (Tenure or Research Scholar Pathway) in the Division of Infectious Disease. We are seeking outstanding candidates with established research program and a commitment to medical education. We seek a PhD-level epidemiologist (or equivalent terminal degree) with postdoctoral training and a record of external funding, commensurate with career stage. Experience securing funding from diverse sources is strongly preferred.

The successful candidate will join the NIH -funded Translational Global Infectious Disease Research ( TGIR ) Center as a key faculty member and will have two primary responsibilities:

+ Establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program in human infectious disease epidemiology that complements and enhances existing TGIR faculty expertise.

+ Direct and expand the TGIR Center’s Human and Population Research ( HPR ) Core, which supports faculty conducting human and population-based research on globally important infectious diseases. The HPR Core provides training, methodological support, and research infrastructure, and the director will play a leadership role in strengthening its campus-wide reach.

We welcome applicants whose research focuses on infectious diseases that impact populations in both the United States and globally. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to):

    + Pathogen-focused epidemiology

+ Clinical and translational infectious disease research

    + Antimicrobial resistance

    + Vaccine research

+ Disease transmission, including zoonotic and emerging infections

Familiarity with study design, biostatistics, data management, and biorepository infrastructure is important. Demonstrated success in team leadership, collaboration, and mentorship is essential.

The TGIR Center is a NIH Center of Biomedical Research Excellence ( COBRE ), supporting the development of institutional research capacity and junior faculty in globally important infectious diseases. The TGIR includes faculty working in basic, clinical, translational, and computational sciences across domestic and international settings.

The Division of Infectious Diseases includes 17 clinical faculty members, 1 ID pharmacist, 3 advanced practice providers, and an infectious diseases clinical fellowship. It also supports a state-wide HIV care network through Ryan White funding, and has strengths in antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, and public health collaborations with the Vermont Department of Health.
