About the Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI):
The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.
Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM):
Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.
Role Overview:
This position exists at the IGCN, Office of Program Support (OPS) of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. Incumbent will report to the OPS Deputy Assistant Commissioner with project guidance from OPS subject matter experts and OPS Technology Solutions Manager.
The purpose of the position is to provide assistance with the development of the OPS SharePoint HUB and subsites, tools and applications. The candidate will assist the OPS Technology Solutions Manager and DAC with SharePoint HUB updates to include: adding Power Automate tools and functions for staff and programs, assisting with data reporting tools utilizing Power BI dashboards for the CTAP database Clean Community, and Regional Performance Metrics SharePoint list; creating RSS information feeds for data and reporting tools, creating subsites HUBs for sharing information to internal and external customers; working on improvements to the Indiana Clean Community subsite HUB including the GIS mapping tool; and, assisting with reporting functionality within the CTAP database.
Incumbent will primarily work as an environmental technology intern on developing new content and tools, and updating, reorganizing, and revising current content associated with IDEM OPS. This may include utilizing : SharePoint, MS Dynamics, Azure, MS Power Platform (Power Automate and Power BI), ArcGIS, and other items. The intern will work with our technology solutions manager, special projects manager, and other program managers within OPS for specific assignments in overall support of OPS.
*The preferred potential work location is the SE Regional Office in Brownstown, with the option for Indianapolis for the ideal candidate.*
Hourly Rate:
The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those that do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those that hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Provide assistance with updating and development of OPS SharePoint Hubs.
+ Create new or improved Power BI based reporting dashboards for CTAP, Clean Community, and Regional Performance Metrics.
+ Update various OPS databases.
+ Assistance with data management and migration.
+ Create automation tools for various OPS activities utilizing Power Automate flows.
+ Updating and creating technology-based user guides.
+ Provide recommendations for the improved and expanded use of MS Teams for OPS programs.
+ Other programmatic technology assistance, as necessary.
Job Requirements:
+ MS Power Platform tools and advanced technology knowledge, skills, and abilities.
+ Critical thinking and visual process mapping skills required.
+ Familiarity with Microsoft including SharePoint, Teams, MS Dynamics, Office, ArcGIS, etc.
+ Ability to use databases and spreadsheets to analyze current and historic data.
+ Effective planning and organizational skills.
+ Ability to work independently and collaborate with others in a team environment.
+ Ability to document process flows and mapping during project development.
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
