The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.

Hourly Rate:
The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24/hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24/hour for those that hold a bachelor’s degree at the time of starting the internship.
Role Overview:
The CHE Finance Intern will work primarily as a member of the Finance team supporting fiscal year close and budget development. The position will report to the Deputy CFO for Higher Education.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
+ Fiscal Year Close: Craft and deliver communications to all staff regarding key deadlines and effectively respond to questions about deadlines to promote clarity and results.
+ Fiscal Year Close: Assist in the preparation of routine financial reporting, including asset inventory, ACFR, and SEFA.
+ Fiscal Year Close: Use financial data to identify opportunities for intervention from the financial team to improve outcomes.
+ Budget Development: Use financial data to assist in the creation of the Q4 and FY26 budget and spending summary.
+ Budget Development: Identify 2-3 potential areas for improvement of the FY27 budget based on FY26 actuals.
+ Budget Development: Utilize FY26 trends to determine likely FY27 SPEED submission for the State Budget Agency.

What You'll Need for Success:
+ Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited postsecondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
+ Must be a detailed-oriented self-starter who can be given a need or objective, break it down into executable pieces, identify questions that need to be asked, gather priorities and requirements, set and manage milestones, and then execute effectively.
+ Excellent organizational, time management, and documentation skills
+ Excellent written, verbal, public speaking, listening, processing, and synthesizing skills
+ Strong computer literacy, including the Microsoft Office suite
+ Ability to work both as part of a collaborative team and independently
+ Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with multiple entities and agencies
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
