POSITION SUMMARY:
Menards is looking for a manager in our IS department to manage the teams that are responsible for delivery, reliability, ongoing maintenance, and operations, with accountability for production outcomes and system health for all aspects of the Menards.com website and Menards Mobile App. The ideal candidate for this position is a hands-on manager and mentor that excels at developing new talent, team building, managing projects, creating specifications, collaborating with business and technical teams, and thinking outside the box to propose new ideas and solutions. This role requires the person to consider security, redundancy, high availability, and performance at scale in the systems their team designs.

This position will have the opportunity to work across teams, establish and drive IS team standards, and develop the foundational frameworks that are utilized across Menards IS.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Lead a staff of IT professionals and provide coaching and mentoring
+ Provide strategic and technical guidance to the Developer and Software Engineer team to lead to their deliverables
+ Own and oversee the overall design and architecture of the solutions being implemented within the team
+ Ensure adequate coverage for support, releases, and on-call responsibilities
+ Determine staffing needs; delegate work assignments to ensure support, maintenance and systems development is implemented according to specifications and standards
+ Work on continuous process improvement and progression of the department standards and procedures with continual education and training of the department staff
+ Ensure that sound testing procedures are in place and utilized for any production release of equipment or application
+ Responsible for the project planning, documenting and implementation within the department
+ Responsible for salary administration and performance monitoring of direct reports in coordination with the Director and CIO
+ Enforce the corporate and IS Security Guidelines and provide feedback for improvements to this policy
+ Ensure that team members are cross-trained in all application areas for which the team is responsible
+ Properly evaluate appropriate vendor proposals and negotiate best value in coordination with the Director
+ Build relationships with major consultants and vendors in order to facilitate key company initiatives
+ Communicate in a timely manner with customers, supervisors, staff and peers; produce all management reports accurately on time
+ Maintain current knowledge of new developments in the technology marketplace and communicate this knowledge appropriately; investigate options and help plan strategies to keep the company in the mainstream of information technology
+ Responsible for strategic guidance, professional development and performance of direct reports in coordination with the Director
+ Develop team leads into future managers; building sustainable leadership depth
+ Ensure sufficient systems capacity and processing capability for organizational needs
+ Follow and reinforce the “Menards Values” in all team members
* Standards and Procedures:
+ Proactively recommend processes, standards and procedures to prevent problems
+ Identify problem trends early; develop and execute action plans to determine problems and implement; report any type of problems or potential problems to the appropriate management in a timely manner
* Project Management:
+ Plan and present strategy to meet the current and future needs of respective business areas and review with business user
+ Ensure that project is correctly planned according to established methodologies and standards
+ Ensure that project work plan is followed and is updated to ensure customer requirements are met in a timely manner and within allocated budget
+ Maintain contact and communication with users, appropriate IS team members, directors and upper-level management
* Project Standards and Procedures:
+ Enforce all company and departmental standards and procedures to develop and support projects
+ Coach and teach staff in proper use, continuous improvement and ongoing implementation of IS Standards and Procedures
+ Responsible for all quality assurance of projects and project team members' assignments
+ Balance scope, timeline, and technical risk to meet business outcomes
* Security and Confidentiality:
+ Responsible for overall data security, confidentiality and prevention of unauthorized attempts to obtain corporate information, corporate assets or access to restricted areas; report all incidents to management
+ Create and require non-disclosure agreements when applicable
* Development & Support:
+ Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the user’s operations and key business rules to facilitate communication regarding requirements
+ Meet with business users to evaluate and assess customer satisfaction
+ Ensure Service Level Agreements are developed and met
+ Analyze user enhancements and maintenance requests, determine priorities and possible solutions and assign resources to complete necessary changes
+ Ensure Team Leaders and other IS Professionals develop test plans and thoroughly test and debug all programs prior to implementation
+ Provide technical guidance and escalation support as needed

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
+ Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a Computer Science, Computer Programming or MIS related field OR Equivalent work experience
+ 5+ years of experience in IS
+ 2+ years of management experience
+ Experience operating production systems at scale
+ Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management
+ Understanding of availability, monitoring, and incident response processes and tooling
+ Excellent supervisory, management, and performance management skills; interpersonal skills; customer service skills; organizational skills; project management skills and knowledge of project management tools; and verbal and written communication skills
+ Excellent analytical skills for problem determination and resolution
+ Ability to successfully negotiate with vendors to provide service to the corporation
+ Excellent object-oriented analysis and design skills, preferably in Java
+ Solid knowledge of SQL, and object relational database design concepts and practices
+ Must work within designated normal office hours assigned or required by work
+ May be required to work overtime and provide on call support, including weekends and holidays
+ Required to carry cell phone at all times
