About Our Opportunity
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of seasonal Guest Services Representative at the Western North Carolina Nature Center, within the Department of Community & Regional Entertainment Facilities. This position is temp/seasonal, approximately 15-20 hours per week year round! The Guest Services Associate will provide outstanding customer service, manage ticket sales, and support daily operations and events.
Purpose of Classification
The Guest Services Representative TS supports daily operations and visitor services by providing courteous, accurate, and responsive customer service in a public-facing environment.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a single-level classification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions

+ Greets and assists visitors in a courteous and professional manner, providing accurate information and ensuring a welcoming and positive guest experience.
+ Processes admissions and ticket sales, including handling cash, credit, or electronic payments, and operating a point-of-sale system in accordance with established procedures.
+ Responds to visitor inquiries related to facility operations, programs, safety guidelines, and general information, referring more complex questions to appropriate staff as needed.
+ Assists with setup, support, and breakdown of daily activities and special events, including coordinating materials and supplies.
+ Performs light administrative duties such as data entry, basic recordkeeping, and report preparation to support operational needs.
+ Maintains a clean, organized, and functional work area, ensuring equipment and materials are properly stored and in working order.
+ Collaborates with team members to support smooth daily operations and effective communication across functional areas.
Education and Experience
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in customer service, cash handling, admissions, retail, or a public-facing service environment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience operating point-of-sale systems.
Experience performing basic administrative or data entry tasks.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to enter, review, and retrieve basic data related to admissions, transactions, and daily operations following established procedures.
Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide courteous assistance, information, and guidance to visitors and staff while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate point-of-sale systems, office equipment, and related tools following established instructions and procedures.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with visitors and staff to convey information, answer questions, and provide assistance.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform basic arithmetic related to cash handling, transactions, and reconciliation.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or demonstrated form. Involves routine work with limited latitude for judgment in handling customer interactions and operational tasks.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment in responding to customer needs, resolving routine issues, and prioritizing tasks during busy periods.
ADA Compliance
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight 5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to typical indoor public-service environments and occasional outdoor conditions during events, including noise, varying temperatures, and interaction with large groups of people.
Some positions may require a fingerprint-based SBI background check after a conditional offer and before your start date; HR will provide instructions if applicable.
