    What you'll do...

     

    The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership for the Sam’s Club Membership Platform team, which forms the foundation for all stream-aligned sub-domains. In this role, you will architect high-performance applications, define technical strategy, and establish engineering standards that drive speed, scalability, and safety across the portfolio. About the Team: We are a collaborative, high-impact team focused on building and evolving the core membership platform for Sam’s Club. Our work underpins critical business functions and enables innovation across multiple domains. What You’ll Do:

     

    + Design and develop large-scale, high-performance, and scalable software systems that meet stringent performance, security, and reliability requirements.

    + Provide architectural leadership and define implementation details aligned with long-term business goals and technical direction.

    + Lead the creation and maintenance of technical design documents, ensuring alignment with scalability and maintainability standards.

    + Drive high-impact, cross-functional projects with visibility across the organization.

    + Manage project priorities, timelines, and deliverables to meet organizational objectives.

    + Partner with architects and senior engineers to shape the broader technical strategy.

    + Mentor junior engineers, fostering continuous learning, innovation, and engineering excellence.

    + Facilitate knowledge sharing, system deep dives, and design reviews to build long-term team and platform scalability.

    + Identify opportunities to enhance the platform’s capabilities through innovation and continuous improvement.

    What You’ll Bring:

    + Proven experience leading teams and building scalable, complex microservices architectures.

    + Proficiency in a wide range of technologies, including Java, Spring Boot Framework, Kubernetes, Relational/NoSQL databases, Data Lake, Kafka, Cloud technologies, and REST/GraphQL API development.

    + Advanced knowledge of distributed systems design, software architecture, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.

    + Demonstrated experience using AI-powered development tools such as VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Windsurf to accelerate software delivery, improve code quality, and automate complex workflows.

    + Hands-on experience building AI agents using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), semantic search, vector databases, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) for secure, scalable, and context-aware enterprise solutions

    + Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to balance trade-offs in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

    + Deep expertise in cloud-native application development, network architecture, and storage systems, with hands-on experience creating automation scripts for validation, configuration, and benchmarking.

    + A passion for staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

    + Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence and work effectively across cross-functional teams.

    Sunnyvale, California US-11807: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

     

    Bentonville, Arkansas US-09930: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location).

    Minimum Qualifications...
