The Sales Manager is a leadership position responsible for the delivery of agreed upon sales targets in terms of overall Term Net Margin and Energy Volumes and for growing market share in electricity, natural gas, demand response, load management programs, and sustainability offerings in the specific geographic area of responsibility. The Sales Manager will lead a team of Account Executives focused on commodity sales and value-added services such as renewable and sustainability options sold through energy brokers. The Sales Manager is also responsible for assisting in the development and execution of the company initiatives to grow the business within a defined geographic area. The role will require developing & executing team and regional broker sales strategies, coaching Account Executives on broker strategies, sales techniques, product knowledge, managing the broker pipeline effectively, and developing employees for future growth and success in the energy industry.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Develop and initiate sales strategies to promote the growth of indirect sales.
+ Continually review tactics and metrics, arising from strategy, to assure they are on track to meet goals, and take appropriate actions based on results and changes in broker needs, competitor actions, or technology change.
+ Proactively take responsibility to work closely with key personnel in partnering departments – Pricing, Tech Sales, Fulfillment, Customer Experience, Credit, Finance, Legal, Wholesale, Marketing, Regulatory and Gov’t Affairs.
+ Analyzes information for sales insights; develops structured approaches for monitoring progress and looks for ways to be more effective or efficient with sales processes and strategies.
+ Provide weekly or bi-weekly one-on-one review sessions with each of your direct reports to assure alignment to goal, discuss, and addressing challenges.
+ Assists team members in closing profitable sales transactions that lead toward goal attainment.
+ Assists team member with developing and executing on personal or broker business plans.
+ Ensures team members follow company policies and procedures.
+ Coach and develop sales team.
+ Hiring, training, motivating and coaching employees as they provide attentive, efficient service to brokers/consultants, assessing employee performance and providing helpful feedback and training opportunities.
+ Manages sales and expense budgets to achieve company profit goals.
+ Provide timely & consistent communication and reporting to senior leadership with NRG.
+ Support the development of & champion creative ways to develop and sell products/services that differentiate NRG from competitors.
+ Assist peers throughout NRG to share best practices for winning business within the region.
+ Continually review and support controls and guidelines for the sales personnel to ensure effective transactions that benefit NRG.
+ Delegating responsibilities and supervising business operations.
Working Conditions:
+ Open office environment Hybrid. 25 to 50% travel requirement to establish and maintain broker business.
Minimum Requirements:
+ Ideal Candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing, management, or related field.
+ Minimum of five years' experience in multiple aspects of deregulated energy sales.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Ability to motivate, coach, and hold team members accountable in a fast-paced sales environment.
+ Experience leading a sales team and creating a “can do” culture.
+ Proven ability to expand existing broker relationships and drive net new sales through that channel.
+ Outstanding problem-solving, strategic-thinking, presentation, verbal and writing skills.
+ Positive professional demeanor and appearance to act as a positive representative of the company in front of clients and in the local business community, as needed.
+ Ability to adapt to changing industry demands and internal and external factors.
+ Strong coaching skills.
+ Critical thinker with good judgment skills who doesn’t simply accept a “business as usual” approach.
+ Strong working knowledge of the wholesale and retail natural gas market. preferred
+ Experience managing broker or consultant channel.
+ Network of existing relationships in the energy industry that can be tapped for business development opportunities.
The base salary range for this position is: $103,840 - $171,360. The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition the position may be eligible to participate in the benefits program which include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending accounts.
