Essential Functions:
Howmet Houston Extrusions (77061) is seeking a fulltime Billet Prep Operator. The primary responsibilities are pulling bars of material, splitting the bars into billets and then machining a radius to one end of the billet. Traceability of all bars and billets are to be maintained at all times.
Role and Responsibilities:
+ Pulls bars of material
+ Splits bars to various length as defined in production traveler by using a band saw.
+ Maintains traceability by maintaining stamping information on billets and bars as defined in the production travelers.
+ Reads job order for specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, tooling instructions on holding devices, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cuts, and cutting tools.
+ Lifts billet with hoist and positions and secures pieces in machine table.
+ Sets specified rotation speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, and positions tool in relation to billet.
+ Starts machine, turns controls to feed tool to billet, and engages feed.
+ Observes cutting action of machine to detect excessive wear or malfunction.
+ Verifies conformance of machines billet to specifications.
+ Scribes reference lines on billet or cut sheet to lay out interrelated surfaces, lengths, and depths of cut.
+ Computes unspecified dimensions and machine settings.
+ Maintains records of cuts, preparation / processing times, orders.
+ Any other duties deemed appropriate by management.
+ Operate overhead bridge cranes and jib cranes
+ Operator forklift and side loader.
+ Complies with all EHS rules required for the work environment.
+ Performs other assigned duties as directed
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Highschool Diploma or GED
+ Minimum 1-4 years quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
+ This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
+ Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ 1-4 years’ Experience in metals manufacturing
+ Excellent Communication and Presentation skills (written, verbal and non- verbal), ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
+ Must work well in a team environment and commit to continuous improvement.
