Job Purpose & Scope
Leads the strategy, design, architecture, and execution of the bank’s enterprise data infrastructure. Responsible for developing secure, trusted, and scalable data capabilities to support analytics, regulatory reporting, model infrastructure, and AI initiatives. Contributes both technical leadership and strategic vision to build the data foundation for the Bank’s transformation and growth.
Essential Job Functions
+ Manages staff to include staffing, assigning and delegating work, training, mentoring, and coaching. Conducts performance reviews and fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, automation, and continuous improvement, focusing on data observability and scalable solutions.
+ Defines, designs, develops, and executes a multi-year data engineering roadmap aligned with enterprise business, analytics, and AI strategies.
+ Architects modern enterprise data platforms, including ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption, leveraging hybrid and cloud-native technologies.
+ Establishes scalable, secure, and governed data pipelines for analytics, regulatory, and AI/ML workloads.
+ Partners with Data Governance, Risk, and Information Security to ensure compliance with regulatory expectations and internal data security, privacy, and governance policies.
+ Advances data-as-a-product principles to improve data ownership, transparency, and reusability.
+ Leads and scales an Agile engineering organization, championing Agile frameworks for transparency and speed to value.
+ Supports DevOps and MLOps practices into the engineering lifecycle for continuous integration, delivery, and deployment.
+ Establishes and enforces software and data engineering standards and reusable frameworks.
+ Delivers robust, high-quality data pipelines supporting analytics, AI/ML, and business intelligence use cases.
+ Modernizes legacy ETL and data warehouse environments into event-driven, API-enabled, and cloud-native architectures.
+ Drives operational excellence through performance tuning, capacity management, and incident reduction.
+ Defines and monitors key metrics (data quality, availability, reliability, team velocity) for accountability and improvement.
+ Collaborates with executive leadership, business and technology product owners, and other stakeholders to align data platform capabilities with enterprise priorities.
+ Mentors and develops engineering talent, cultivating a high-performing engineering culture.
+ Communicates effectively with executives, auditors, and regulators on platform strategy, progress, and compliance posture.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Advanced knowledge of modern data architectures (data lakes, lakehouses, streaming systems).
+ Comprehensive knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and master data management frameworks.
+ Comprehensive knowledge of data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
+ Proficiency with data pipeline and orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, Terraform, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD).
+ Proficiency with MLOps, AI/ML pipeline integration, and cloud-based machine learning enablement.
+ Proficiency with Python, R, SAS, Java, and SQL from hands-on experience and application in business settings.
+ Excellent communication skills with proven ability to articulate complex technical topics to senior executives and regulators.
+ Strong collaboration skills with the ability to bridge business, risk, and technology domains.
+ Strong problem solving, project management, and organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail.
+ Skilled in Agile coaching, team leadership, and talent development.
+ Skill in using computer and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
+ Ability to display effective leadership skills, including hiring, training, mentoring, and retaining a team of talented data engineers.
+ Ability to utilize discretion and sound judgment in decision making and maintain confidentiality.
+ Ability to demonstrate strategic thinking skills to balance long-term vision and near-term execution.
Basic Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or commensurate work experience, required. Master’s degree preferred.
+ 10+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, platform design, or software engineering, required.
+ 5+ years of experience managing or leading Agile data engineering or Agile delivery teams and contributing to Agile transformation initiatives, required.
+ 4+ years of experience designing and implementing large enterprise-scale data platforms in regulated industries, required. Experience in banking or financial services strongly preferred.
+ 4+ years of experience successfully leading modernization efforts from legacy ETL to cloud-native, event-driven architectures, required.
