    Position Summary

    We are seeking a highly-skilled individual for a Postdoctoral Scholar-fixed term position focused on small-scale fisheries and aquatic food systems in Africa. The research and outreach to be led by the person in this position aims to illuminate the value of small-scale fisheries to society as a part of nutrition-sensitive food systems and advocate for policies and investments that support the contributions of these small-scale fisheries. The individual in this position will take a leadership role in research and outreach, lead a collection of studies on small-scale fisheries value chains, their contributions to livelihoods and food and nutrition security, and resilience and transformation over time. The Postdoctoral Scholar will lead the design of value chain studies, train research teams and oversee data collection, lead and contribute to peer-reviewed manuscripts and project reports, and conduct policy outreach. The Postdoctoral Scholar will work integrally with an interdisciplinary and international team of collaborators at Michigan State University and collaborating institutions, including project partners in the countries where the research is being carried out, including Malawi, Liberia, Namibia, and Zanzibar.

    Required Degree

    Doctorate -Fisheries

    Minimum Requirements

    + PhD in fisheries social science or related field

    + Experience in mixed methods study design

    + Experience conducting team-based field data collection

    + Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills

    + Exemplary organizational skills and demonstrated aptitude to carry project management of large, complex research projects

    + Track record of scholarly writing in the fields of fisheries social science and aquatic food systems

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to engage effectively with diverse international collaborators

    Desired Qualifications

    + Language competency in one or more non-English languages spoken in Malawi, Liberia, Zanzibar, Namibia

    + Track record of policy and multi-stakeholder engagement and outreach
