    This position is located in St. Paul and may have the ability to telework. Must be available for reasonable travel, including some overnight stays and weekend events.

     

    This position exists to perform project management of the response to and the cleanup of sites contaminated with agricultural chemicals using the authorities established under state and federal laws. Contaminated sites must be investigated and cleaned up to prevent adverse effects on public health, welfare, and the environment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    To facilitate proper years of service crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

     

    + Two (2) years of professional experience working on the environmental cleanup of contaminated sites. NOTE: Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, chemistry, environmental science, soil science, water resources, public/environmental health, geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, toxicology or related science may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

    + The ability to effectively represent MDA before a variety of groups relative to social, economic, and environmental issues.

    + The ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.

    + Good organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.

    + Good working skills in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and project management and environmental software.

    + The ability to celebrate diversity and a strong commitment to a respectful and inclusive work environment.

    + Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + An advanced degree in agronomy, chemistry, environmental science, soil science, water resources, public/environmental health, geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, toxicology, or related science.

    + Knowledge of the Minnesota Ground Water Protection Act, state and federal Superfund regulations, the Land Recycling Act, and an understanding of the interrelationships of these laws and how they apply to agricultural chemical incident response.

    + Experience working with agricultural chemical environmental cleanup sites and Minnesota Environmental Response and Liability Act sites.

    + Knowledge of state and federal pesticide and fertilizer laws, rules, and regulations.

    + Knowledge of state and federal litigation procedures and processes, and knowledge of MDA enforcement procedures.

    + Direct experience (including farming experience) or significant training in the use and management of pesticides or inorganic fertilizers in an agricultural setting.

    Physical Requirements

    This position requires occasional work in heavy dust, around agricultural chemicals, and entering buildings, warehouses, sales areas, and cultivated fields to conduct inspections and investigations. This position must currently possess and maintain an active/valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review and be able to drive five (5) hours a day, if needed. This position requires sometimes difficult, physically demanding labor, occasionally long workdays, outdoor work in sometimes harsh conditions, and strict attention to details and protocol. The incumbent must be able to assist with the sampling of wells and the collection of soil samples. This requires driving and hiking to sampling locations, collecting samples, and carrying them to a vehicle and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

    Additional Requirements

    The Minnesota Department of Agriculture will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US.
