Position Summary:
KX News is seeking a digital news leader and innovator to grow our audience and direct the creation of local news content across digital, mobile, CTV, and social media platforms. As Executive Producer, Digital Content, you'll work with the News Director to oversee daily editorial decisions while setting strategic goals for our digital future.
This role is central to charting the station's audience growth strategy. You'll help lead initiatives across KXNet.com, our mobile app, social media channels, SEO, CTV/streaming, push alerts, newsletters, and emerging platforms.
The Executive Producer, Digital Content leads the transition from a broadcast-focused newsroom to a multi-platform newsroom through active daily example, providing training in methods, processes, and tactics—including creating and editing original content beyond what is produced for on-air.
Position Responsibilities:
+ Manage the digital content team in news and programming; lead strategy to grow digital and streaming audiences
+ Serve as the voice of innovation in the newsroom and inspire others to follow your lead
+ Develop workflows that deliver content 24/7 across current and future platforms, with storytelling optimized for each screen
+ Drive growth for our streaming platform, KXNEWS+, by enforcing best practices for content and user experience
+ Champion vertical short-form video as a reporting tool for our mobile app
+ Write headlines that grow our audience and engagement
+ Analyze data and metrics to inform editorial decisions and create accountability for results
+ Partner with the General Manager, News Director, and station leaders on cohesive cross-platform strategy
+ Oversee all social media presence, including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, and emerging platforms
+ Teach, coach, and mentor content teams in writing best practices and SEO
+ Hold digital employees accountable to KX News and Nexstar ethical and editorial standards
+ Monitor and catalog court cases, tracking suspect information for ongoing crime and justice coverage
+ Curate and manage the website homepage and app content throughout the day to ensure freshness and relevance
+ Lead digital breaking news coverage, coordinating rapid response across all platforms
+ Manage push notification strategy to drive engagement without overwhelming audiences
+ Coordinate live streaming coverage of breaking news, press conferences, and special events
+ Ensure accuracy and verify all digital content before publication
+ Monitor competitor coverage and industry trends to identify opportunities
+ Develop and maintain editorial calendars for planned digital content and special projects
+ Respond to and engage with audience comments and feedback on digital platforms
+ Performs other duties as assigned
Skill/ Experience Requirements
+ Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience
+ At least 2 years of digital news leadership experience
+ Solid journalistic judgment with emphasis on accurate, fair, and unique local content
+ Excellent writing skills
+ Deep understanding of SEO best practices for articles, images, and video
+ Experience analyzing audience data and identifying behavioral trends (Google Analytics knowledge a plus)
+ Knowledge of content management systems, news production systems, and social newsgathering tools
+ Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
+ Ability to maintain a positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co-workers in all departments
+ Receptive to feedback and committed to continuous improvement
+ Familiarity with North Dakota and/or a reason to relocate here is a plus
