    How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

    The Supervisor Signals is responsible for management of the preventative maintenance program by writing procedures, generating preventative maintenance cycles, and ensuring timely completion and record keeping. This position will prioritize maintenance tasks, respond to, and resolve signal systems problems, providing direction for department forepersons and technicians, and coordinating with internal departments and external agencies.

     

    The Supervisor will also set stock levels and reorder points for Signal equipment spares and coordinate repair of core units with manufacturers and repair agencies. Additionally, the Signal Supervisor will support the department manager by specifying plans for equipment upgrades or replacement, providing field supervision, monitoring and quality control of maintenance inspections, and development/execution of training plans.

     

    What you would do in this job

    Supervisory:

    + Provides work direction to Signal Technicians and develops and monitors Technician work.

    + Directs technicians and external resources to quickly return systems to normal operation during system failures or unusual operations.

    + Prioritizes and assigns maintenance and repairs of signal systems components.

    + Ensures compliance with systems maintenance procedures and quality of completed work.

    Project Management:

    + Analyzes system's performance.

    + Recommends modifications/upgrades and coordinates with manufacturers and integrators on systems maintained by Metro Transit.

    + Manages System's Maintenance tasks and prepares maintenance procedures.

    + Ensures preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner.

    + Maintains accurate historical data of completed preventative maintenance tasks.

    + Monitors compliance with industry standards and recommended practices.

    + Analyzes system's reliability and recommends improvements based on reliability data.

    + Participation in special projects is required.

    Administrative:

    + Prepares concise reports, compiles information, maintains procedural reference materials, training records, and other required documentation.

    + Documents non-compliance of rules, procedures, and policies when required.

    + Maintains valid certifications and drivers' licenses.

    + Manages spare Inventory and Repairs: Monitors equipment failure rates and develops preventative maintenance procedures and cycles. Sets up spare equipment stock levels, reorder points, and coordinate repairs of core units.

    + Payroll reconciliation, recognition time reporting, PARS, FMLA requests, time off requests, and other duties as needed.

    Quality Control:

    + Ensures compliance with systems maintenance procedures and quality of completed work.

    + Audits quality of purchased and repaired department spares.

    + Tracks, analyzes, and resolves repetitive failures.

     

    What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

     

    Any of the following combinations of related education and/or experience railway signal and train control systems, aircraft maintenance or power generation/distribution.

     

    •High school diploma or GED andeight (8) years in railway signal and train control systems, aircraft maintenance or power generation/distribution including one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience in the field.

    • Associate's degree in electronic engineering technology or related fieldand six (6) years of related experience such as railway signal and train control systems, aircraft maintenance or power generation/distribution including one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience in the field.

    •Bachelor's degree in electronic engineering technology or related field andfour (4) years of related experience such as railway signal and train control systems, aircraft maintenance or power generation/distribution including one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience in the field.

     

    Metropolitan Council Employees Only:Successful completion of any one of the following four Metropolitan Council Leadership/Supervisory training programs will substitute for lead/supervisory experience. You must attach your certificate(s) as proof of completion of the program to you application. Only completion of one of the four programs listed below will substitute credit (6-months or 1 year) for lead/supervisory experience.

    Licensure Requirement:

    + Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

    + Ability to pass physical examinations, Rail Operations Rule Book, and physical agility examinations.

    Union: TMSA/Grade H

     

    FLSA Status: Exempt

     

    Safety Sensitive: Yes. Subject to random NON-DOT drug tests.

     

    Work Environment: Work is regularly performed in a normal office environment but will require occasional outdoor work with exposure to outdoor weather conditions. This position has exposure to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, vibration and occasional loud noise. This position will be reachable by phone and may have a variable shift.

     

    Physical Environment: Must be able to climb a ladder, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl, reach with hands/arms frequently below chest and overhead and lift up to 80 pounds.
