Manual Machinist
Who will you be working with?
The team at Fulmer Company is dynamic, versatile, and motivated. The team is a combination of seasoned veterans, developing machinists, and young talent. All are eager to grow, support the customer, and help each other. You will work independently and have a strong support system around you.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Fulmer Company team, you will be responsible for producing high quality components for a variety of industries including transportation, power generation, industrial, and marine. Our end users rely on us to provide solutions to their challenges.
What will your typical day look like?
Manual Machinist operates traditional machines (lathes, mills, grinders) to cut, shape, and finish metal parts from blueprints, focusing on precision, quality control with tools like calipers, and performing maintenance, often handling custom or low-volume work in settings like factories or machine shops, requiring strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail for creating precise components.
Key Responsibilities
+ **Blueprint Interpretation:** Read and understand complex blueprints, sketches, CAD files, and technical drawings to determine machining operations.
+ **Machine Operation:** Set up, operate, and adjust manual tools like lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders.
+ **Fabrication & Finishing:** Turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind parts to exact specifications, often involving smoothing and polishing.
+ **Quality Control:** Measure, inspect, and test finished products using precision instruments (calipers, micrometers) to ensure they meet tight tolerances.
+ **Tooling & Setup:** Select, align, and secure cutting tools and workpieces for each job.
+ **Maintenance:** Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machinery to keep it in safe working order.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
+ Proficiency with manual machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders).
+ Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and setups.
+ Ability to read and implement technical drawings.
+ Expertise in using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers).
+ Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
+ Problem-solving skills for custom or repair work.
+ Commitment to safety protocols

+ Have the ability to routinely lift up to 40 pounds
+ Be able to stand for extended periods
+ Basic reaching, crouching, bending
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
-High School Diploma or GED
-This position requires accuracy and responsibility as many duties must be performed without close supervision
-Training and/or experience using measuring equipment and reading drawings is needed.
-Minimum 1 year experience with conventional machine tools.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $18.00-20.00 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include annual bonus, if eligible.
