    Pharmacy Courier

    SCHEDULE:

    + Full-time 40-hour position

    + Monday through Friday varied hours between 8a-6p

    + No weekends, no holidays

    **LOCATION** :

    + Supporting Baystate Health System

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    + GED or High School Diploma (required)

    + 1-2 years as courier / delivery transportation experience (required)

    + Must possess a valid MA driver’s license and an excellent DMV driver record. Position subject to additional requirements (BH-HR-902 Fleet Policy) Proficient or above evaluations.

    + No accidents unless no fault.

    + No documented warnings on file.

    Summary Description:

    This position is responsible for the pick up and transportation of Pharmaceuticals from BH Specialty, Retail, and Inpatient Pharmacies, to multiple BH hospitals/affiliates and patient residences. This position will be responsible for delivering medications and other medication-related items deemed necessary by the Courier Lead and/or Dispatch. The Courier II expedites incoming STAT orders, with delivery to all BH Pharmacy customers within established time parameters. In addition, the Courier II ensures safe operation of the BH Pharmacy vehicle fleet.

     

    This position may require flexibility with shift and route schedules. This position may also require flexibility regarding the safe transport of patients to and from the DCCC.

    Job Requirements:

    1) Must be able to maintain a complete and thorough understanding of assigned routes, transportation requirements, medication tracking software, and medication delivery requirements.

     

    2) Must work in collaboration with pharmacy teams for proper handling of medications. Must be able to maintain medication integrity during transport. Complies with Department of Public Health (DPH) regulatory agency requirements, rules, and regulations regarding storage, handling, transport, and accounting for controlled substances.

     

    3) Must be able to complete all courier routes with minimal supervision as required.

     

    4) Must be able to perform assigned duties requested by Lead Courier / Dispatch as required, always with 100% accuracy in mind. Must prioritize STAT deliveries within assigned timelines.

     

    5) Must have the ability to transport patients, if required, in a safe and professional manner.

     

    6) Operates pharmacy courier vehicles in accordance with Massachusetts State Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) and public safety laws. Adheres to all Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations. Reports any and all vehicle irregularities to BH Manager, Courier and Fleet Vehicle Services for immediate resolution.

     

    7) Completes all regulatory annually assigned training, related to driver safety and other mandated safety requirements (e.g., DPH, DOT, RMV, equipment training, etc).

     

    8) Maintain hospital vehicles, and any other courier workspace, in a clean and safe operating condition.

     

    9) Consistently adheres to the Baystate Operating Principles, the Baystate Service Standards, and maintains confidentiality as a member of the BH Pharmacy Courier team.

    Skills/Competencies:

    Basic to intermediate computer skills, knowledge of specimen tracking, routing, and vehicle software and associated hardware devices.

     

    Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact courteously, positively and effectively with customers and coworkers required.

     

    Possess excellent organizational skills, with the ability to make sound judgments, solve problems within the scope of responsibility, and perform various activities according to priority or emergent situations.

     

    Must demonstrate initiative in completing tasks and requires the ability to work towards defined objectives with the minimum amount of supervision.

     

    The ability to perform steadily while dealing with extreme weather conditions while driving and performing your assigned delivery responsibilities.

     

    Must be able to speak and write English
