    Position Overview:

    We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant for a three-month contract position based in Alexandria, VA. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience within financial services, banking, or credit unions. You will perform core accounting functions, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the maintenance of accurate financial records during this critical project period.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Prepare and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet accounts in accordance with industry best practices.

    + Assist with monthly closing activities, including financial statement preparation and reporting.

    + Manage accounts payable/receivable, cash postings, and bank reconciliations.

    + Support audit processes by gathering documentation and addressing auditor inquiries specific to financial services procedures.

    + Review daily transactions for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to regulatory and internal control requirements.

    + Collaborate across departments to monitor cash flow and prepare variance analyses.

    + Document and implement process improvements to streamline efficiency and accuracy.

    + Stay informed on compliance standards relevant to financial services institutions.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

    + Minimum 2 years’ accounting experience in financial services, banking, or credit unions preferred.

    + Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and industry compliance.

    + Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, MS Dynamics, or similar), plus strong Excel skills.

    + Excellent analytical and organizational skills with high attention to detail.

    + Ability to work efficiently both independently and within a team.
