    The Director of Accounting is a senior finance leader responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls within a manufacturing environment. This role serves as a key strategic partner to executive leadership and operates in a highly visible, hands-on capacity—functioning as a “working CFO” for the organization.

     

    The Director of Accounting will lead the preparation and presentation of financial statements, collaborate closely with the General Manager and Human Resources leadership, and provide financial guidance across departments. This role requires both technical accounting expertise and the ability to communicate financial insights effectively to senior management and the Board of Directors.

    Key Responsibilities

    Financial Reporting & Board Presentation

     

    + Lead the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

    + Present financial results, trends, and key insights to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

    + Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

    + Serve as the primary accounting subject matter expert for leadership and cross-functional partners.

     

    Accounting Operations

     

    + Oversee the day-to-day accounting function, including general ledger, month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.

    + Manage and mentor accounting staff, providing hands-on support, guidance, and development.

    + Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, systems, and controls.

     

    Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance

     

    + Oversee cost accounting activities, including inventory valuation, standard costing, variance analysis, and margin analysis.

    + Partner with operations and supply chain teams to ensure accurate costing and meaningful financial insights.

    + Support operational decision-making through detailed cost and profitability analysis.

     

    Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Leadership

     

    + Partner with department leaders to develop, manage, and monitor budgets and forecasts.

    + Provide guidance and support to leaders across the organization on financial planning, cost management, and performance tracking.

    + Act as a financial thought partner to management at all levels, translating financial data into actionable insights.

     

    Cross-Functional & Executive Partnership

     

    + Work closely with the General Manager and Human Resources leadership in a collaborative, engaged environment.

    + Support strategic initiatives, capital investments, and operational planning.

    Requirements

    • Proven experience in accounting leadership within a manufacturing or similar environment.

    • Strong knowledge of month-end close processes and general ledger management.

    • Advanced skills in financial reporting and analysis.

    • Ability to communicate complex financial data effectively to diverse audiences, including executives and boards.
