    ABOUT THE POSITION

    Clark County is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Financial Office Assistant I/II position. This position provides a variety of routine to difficult fiscal, financial, payroll, and accounting office support to various County and local agency offices in either a centralized financial or departmental setting. This position may perform general office support duties, including typing, word processing and filing.

     

    THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 500 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED.

     

    Please note that the starting salary for this position is $20.00 per hour.

     

    Financial Office Assistant I: $19.14 - $28.27 Hourly

     

    Financial Office Assistant II: $20.69 - $30.52 Hourly

     

    The Financial Office Assistant I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Financial Office Assistant II.

     

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

     

    Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

     

    Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.

     

    Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.

     

    Some positions may be Bond Funded. Bond Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of bond funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.

     

    Some positions may be used to fill permanent-intermittent positions. The selected candidates will work a regular schedule of more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours in a workweek. They will be paid at the approved hourly rate for actual hours worked. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits on a prorated basis based on hours worked in a pay period.

     

    Some positions may be used to fill job share positions. Job Share positions are for two (2) employees performing in permanent positions of the same classification who share one specific job. Time worked will be 21 hours per week. Job Share employees will be paid at their hourly rate for actual hours worked. Sick and vacation leave benefits will accrue on a prorated basis based on hours worked in a pay period.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:

    Financial Office Assistant I - Equivalent to graduation from high school AND one (1) year of full-time general clerical experience. Experience in a financial setting preferred. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

     

    Financial Office Assistant II - In addition to the above, one (1) year of full-time financial OR accounting assistant experience.

     

    All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application.     Working Conditions: Specified positions may require working evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    + Matches invoices, receiving reports and other requests for payment with purchase order or contract documents; ensures proper authorization and compliance with departmental, County or agency policies and procedures.

    + Inputs information to a computer system or manually prepares forms to produce payments; reconciles and prepares payment requests for non-purchase order expenditures such as utility and contract payments.

    + Provides information to vendors regarding invoices and purchase orders.

    + Processes bails, fines, fees, charges, taxes and other monies due to the County; serves as cashier and receives payments and balances monies on a regular basis.

    + Assists with the production of various periodic billings, receives checks by mail and processes and balances accordingly; audits accounts receivable.

    + Answers factual questions regarding departmental, County or agency policies and ordinances.

    + Processes returned checks, conveys to proper person to effect collection and makes appropriate entries to files and/or ledgers.

    + Maintains accounting, financial and statistical records and prepares periodic or special reports.

    + Posts information to ledgers, journals and reports; totals and balances figures, proofs data and makes corrections as required.

    + Prepares, reviews and processes time reports; calculates complex differential, premium and shift pay rates; processes personnel actions, employee benefits and changes; provides benefits and payroll information to employees.

    + Processes centralized or departmental payroll records and documentation.

    + Reviews and audits changes to County tax roll, calculates payments due on bonds and special assessments.

    + Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.

    + May assist with departmental cost accounting and budget preparation by posting information, typing materials or totaling figures.

    + Performs a variety of general office support duties such as typing, proofreading, filing, answering the telephone and using standard office equipment.
