Overview
The Senior Lead Mechanic (SLM) is skilled at a variety of trades including but not limited to carpentry, painting, minor electrical repairs, and all work required of a Mechanic A or B. The SLM will lead, mentor, and direct all maintenance mechanics in performing daily duties. Inspects, troubleshoots, performs emergency repairs (this includes all actions necessary to render a situation, system, or component in a safe condition), maintains building and plant mechanical equipment in response to service requests and directives, and performs preventive maintenance. Prepares and completes required updates (manual and electronic) in a timely manner. Responsibilities include the following specific duties and other assignments as required by their Supervisor(s) to support the needs of the College and campus operations.
Responsibilities
+ Makes periodic inspections and repairs on all major and minor mechanical systems included but not limited to pumps, fans, air handling equipment, cooling towers, and any other mechanical drive components as directed. Do minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs including diagnosing bad motors, resetting overload assemblies, replacing ballasts and switches, and all other electrical troubleshooting as directed. Works with an outside contractor on equipment as required
+ Trains other Mechanics and Facilities department staff in the proper methods of repairing, maintaining, and operating the equipment in the College systems, and in minor construction.
+ Respond to verbal and written trouble calls. Perform emergency repairs to restore service, protect persons and abate damages to buildings and equipment. Notify appropriate manager of solutions to initial trouble calls and report problems requiring additional repairs to management.
+ The SLM is skilled in project management. S/he must be able to understand the requirements of a project, manage the project, and complete the project using the resources of the College. They should be skilled in carpentry, masonry, painting, and minor electric, with an understanding of major construction projects.
+ Maintains, repairs, and installs all Facilities related equipment as directed by their Supervisor(s)
+ Participate on snow removal team upon request of the Facilities management team.
+ Comply with OSHA, EPA and Environmental Health and Safety directives to include the use and/or wearing of protective materials.
Qualifications
Education Requirement:The individual should possess a high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate. A technical degree and continuing education in related seminars and courses to maintain a working knowledge of new and emerging technologies is preferred.
Licenses or Certifications:Not applicable
Technical/Computer Skills:The individual should be proficient in Windows based software and feel comfortable navigating the Internet
Prior Experience:The individual should possess a minimum of five years’ experience in the maintenance field with a minimum of 2 years as a Lead Mechanic or equivalent. Knowledge of OSHA, EPA and EHS guidelines are essential
Physical & Environmental Demands:The Employee frequently is required to walk to various campus locations and is occasionally required to assess and maintain other related equipment. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
The individual must be able to communicate in English through speech, reading and writing skills.
Minimum Salary
USD $32.82/Yr.
Maximum Salary
USD $41.03/Hr.
