    Job Summary

    Do you have a love of Utah history, Mormon history, and/or the history of the West? If so, this position is perfect for you. As a Multimedia Assistant in Special Collections, you will assist in answering reference, research, and reproduction requests to connect researchers with historic photos, video, and audio. This position may also assist in outreach and processing photograph collections. You would be part of a team dedicated to preserving and providing access to these important histories.

     

    The successfully hired candidate will be expected to continue their employment for a **minimum**

     

    of

     

    two semesters.

     

    This position is considered Category 1, mandatory and required to on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the Marriott Library if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.

     

    For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted.

    Responsibilities

    This position is responsible for assisting senior archival staff with fulfilling patron research and reproduction requests for Multimedia archives. Duties include answering written reference inquiries; fulfilling reproduction requests through file retrieval or digitization; and ensuring accurate file naming standards and statistical record keeping. This position will also assist with processing physical and digital photograph collections, including arrangement and description based on standard archival practices; may be asked to contribute to archival outreach, such as exhibits, social media, and events, or other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.

    + Must not be simultaneously working another job for the University of Utah.

    + Must be available to work weekdays and maintain a regular schedule during the archive’s open hours (M-F, 8AM-5PM).

    + Good organizational and communication skills.

     

    Preferences

     

    + Experience working independently or collaboratively as a member of a team.

    + Strong self-motivation and the ability to perform tasks without close supervision.

    + Ability to lift and move 30 lbs of weight.

    + Knowledge, interest, or experience with any of the following:

    + Utah history and the history of the Intermountain region

    + Photography, film, video, or audio production

    + Photograph scanning and Photoshop skills

    + Word processing and spreadsheets
